Hello to all,

I would like to say everybody is right here
It sounds funny but its the facts.
I had the chance to play a bit with this Map Loader issue and found the following facts.
I tried several OS and in the end tried playing with VISTA 32 bit. IMO it does not really change anything between XP and VISTA. WIN7 is officially not supported by the MAP Loader sot works nice, if not it doesnt

I had 3 devices N900 to test.
Results:
1 work directly
1 work after some playing
1 did not work at all

The first I connected in MASS Storage and it was recognized and I could download the MAPS. So nice and easy

The second device did not want to do anything so What I did was all the suggestions given here. Renaming the file etc etc.
But still did not work.
So I copied the QF File from the first device and copied into the second device. Tried Mass Storage Mode still no success.
Connected to PC Suite in PCS Mode and then started the Map Loader and miracle Got recognised and I could download the maps.

The third device with all of above tries or anything no chance to connect and go recognised by the MAP Loader.

So conclusion about this, it seems to be the difference between installed programs or the SW or the state of the device.
But its very strange behaviour indeed.

What I really did remark was that you always should connect the device in advance before you start the MAP Loader.
So Device is clearly connected and then start the programm.

Perhaps somebody can fix his issue

I dont due the 3rd Device is mine
So no Maps on the device.

You can also download and install maps manually, if you don't have MS Windows installed at all.

Nokia should make Map Loader work also in Linux-systems.

Hmm the latest version of the maploader worked for me, as someone else here said after renaming the .qf file it worked perfectly. I am also running windows 7 x64 so if it works for me then it should be no problem for xp and vista 32... I think I used the PC suite connection mode though rather than the mass storage but again this is hardly a big issue!

Yes the rename is a bit of a pain but hardly a big deal and its been covered in the forums here before!

This is also news as the maploader has been out for several weeks now but I believe it is good news as it shows that Nokia is moving support forwards for the N900 and the OVI maps platform!

What do you mean by "renaming files"? Just got started on Maps and haven't heard about that? Is it a fix?

Works perfectly fine. With windows XP. It seems odd to me that Nokia can only make it work on a 9 year old deprecated operating system, but thems the breaks. If you have Win7 pro just use XP mode.

Note: I use Win7 X64 so that may be my issue with it.
