You could email the files to yourself at college. If you had cold hands and stuck them in a microwave and said that was the only way to warm them up would you expect that to be considered sensible?

I sympathise entirely with yor situation but you should be directing your efforts towards the affected host computer's owners/managers for not maintaining effective protection.

If you want to transfer files like this then maybe you should use a dumb usb stick?

now that's the least of my problems, i formatted the n900 hdd, with file manager, and apperently i ****ed up, i think it deleted the config files or something cause' it's not recognizing any photos, or videos, or music from the media player :7, altho it can read them if i search them from file manager, anyway i can fix this without having to reflash? :/

You should've cleaned virus by connecting it to a PC in mass storage mode and using desktop AV.

Also your flash disk wasn't under linux control when you plugged it into infected PC, therefore virus could do everything with it. Blame Nokia on insecure implementation, but you'd likely complain it is hard to use otherwise.

The MyDocs folder actually had a lot of other things in it like your ringers, your photos and videos you took with the camera and other things. If you had opened terminal and typed cd MyDocs and then typed ls -a you would notice a few extra things.....that are now deleted. You can get those back by flashing with the vanilla firmware. It won't give you your personal files back, but the directory structure will be restored. Enjoy....

uh, thanks mate, for pointing me in the right direction, i've been reading the wiki about how to flash, and i see that it says if i use windows 7 it should be 32 bits and mine is 64, am i gonna have a whole bunch of trouble with that?... isn't there a safer way? me being dumber than a screw might ruin things even more : 3

do this, download the flasher tool debian deb installer file. Get the firmwares Vanilla and whatever the latest one is in your region. Then put those on a usb drive or something. Get an Ubuntu install disk and just run the os from the disk.

From there all you need to do to update your firmwares is boot the disk. click the deb installer and run the command as described.

Edit: You could install ubuntu to a usb stick or sd card also. Just keep the firmwares in a folder in your home directory. This is also handy when your computer gets a virus again and you don't feel like messing with it and you just want to use your computer.

rikisky - You are doing things without knowing consequences of what you are doing.

There are may people trying to help you, but not every one is explaining all the details to you!

Slow down and find out what is happening, before you move even more forward.

Espescially before flashing your device!

UNDERSTAND BEFORE YOU REACT!

all this has already been covered in the wiki article (or at least was covered a couple weeks ago, edited those myself). so read and whatever you do, please at least learn from your mistakes...
e: and a link just to be sure:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware

e2: here are your options:
grabbed from wiki
Option 1

Disabling signed driver detection is done by choosing the option "Boot without checking for signed drivers" (or something similar) in the boot-menu. To display the boot-menu press the "F8" key as soon as the windows boot process starts. The rest of the process is similar to XP.

[edit] Option 2

Alternatively you can permanently disable driver checking via command line manager. There are good instructions for windows 7 available [1]
[edit] Option 3

You can use [2] Microsoft Virtual Pc but when you connect your phone, press the "usb" button and select your device.
[edit] Option 4

An alternative approach is to either download Ubuntu LiveCD and burn it to cd or create a persistent installation to usb disk. After that you must get (another) usb stick where you will download maemo_flasher-3.5_2.5.2.2_i386.deb -file (versions may vary) and firmware files needed for reflashing. Additionally one can save this page to usb stick just in case.

After that you only boot your LiveCD or persistent Ubuntu, install Flasher (doubleclick the file should work fine) and after that follow instructions from Linux - chapter.
