Hey, let's not answer any more n00b's posts!

Seriously, what's the point of not replying to n00bs or trolls? Personally, i find it amusing when people get worked up over a troll. It's free entertainment to me. And i can afford free.

What next? 24 hour period before someone can post a reply? Some people really ought to grow a thicker skin.

Hello, Troll!

Trolling is an attitude

It doesn't mean people who are anti-N900, y'know.

Sure. My politics experience says me that it doesn't work well.

It's a wry joke from a movie.

You don't see any point in helping "noobs"? That's one value of the community.

And thicker skin is great, but this isn't solely about insults. It's more about making sure valuable content isn't drowned out by noise.

We already have a star system thingie. And a tag thingie.

How about reserved tags? Public tagging for reserved tags. Maybe fixed tags, like useful, unuseful, troll, etc with plus and minus buttons, one per user. Like package votes and brainstorm ideas.

I think that is someone starts a tag of such a thread others will be warned before getting their blood pressure up.

When I was new, I was dismayed at the people who ranted against the n900.

Then I took to trying to help them, to solve their issues or offer advice - and discovered that many of them don't want advice.

Then I took to trying to rebutt them - many of the complaints were faults that either didn't exist or had been known well before purchase. That didn't make me happy either.

Then I discovered the One True Way: I learned detachment from trolls, realised that they are their own problem, not mine, and became enlightened.

Now when I see a rant, I make fresh popcorn.

If everyone could help expand the Catagory;Beginners section on the Wiki, that would be much appreciated.

Especially the page that I recently started:

Nice initiative with the page. However, people who read forum manuals and behavior guides are people who accept the idea that they might be in need of guidance. This successfully dodges just about every troll, spammer, etc out there.

I read it because I am aware that sometimes I think I make a mostly useful list and then re-read and realize I complain/rant. Sometimes I'm tired. Sometimes some dork is the lucky recipient of my 100th unuseful threads in a row award.

In a word, even though I try, I err. I rarely see trolls/spammers/dorks/whatever accept there's a problem there. Cried to mommy? I was right to complain. Inflammatory? I was misunderstood. Spam? Button broke. Miscellaneous mischievous behavior? Nobody told me. Mistake? I'm new. Corrected by others? I'm old enough.

These people are fine with themselves, self confident, consider themselves just fine if not above most, and have no need for wikis, manuals, guides or any such nonsense. Somehow these people think winner mentality makes a winner.

Reading requires patience, understanding, concentration and a minimum of intellectual capacity. It is my opinion that the problem and the solution are disjunctive.

I know I'm pessimistic, but in my opinion a thousand more wiki pages will not get you one more decibel SNR.
