"Come on Nokia" is an odd call. Phones are radio transmitters, and a licensed for sale in specific countries (or in all countries, as "world phones") by a manufacturer. They get the license *from* each country (or whatever government/proxy controls radio spectrum in the target country.)
Companies selling phones are not legally allowed to ship a device approved only for country A to country B, even if B is RIGHT NEXT DOOR to A. Eh?
It's as simple as that.
Thank you for e-mailing the Nokia Care Contact Center. We are glad that you are interested in the Nokia N900
Based on your concern, please call our technical support hotline @1 8886654228, you need to provide us with your phone's serial number/imei,and your phone shouldnt have any physical or liquid damage, so it can be consider for warranty.

Simple maybe, and I (and others) appreciate your explanation. But why is "Come on Nokia" odd? We want them to enter the Canadian market with the N900. Nothing strange about that, surely? If they sell it, they will have licensed it.
Also "Come on Nokia" because... well, try calling "1 8886654228" from Canada. Try it. I did. "The number dialled cannot be connected from your area code" (or very similar). Nice touch.

My transaction was exclusively Canadian. I therefore would expect Nokia Canada to handle things internally. I find it hard to believe that Nokia Canada cannot take care of N900 warranty claims however they choose to deal with them.
My reference to the GN1 was to say that Nokia is quickly losing ground here in Canada... and this warranty problem will likely tip the scales for many Canadians.
To complete my absurdity of N900 existence - after providing the Nokia USA rep with my US address I was asked if I would be signing for the return shipment in person! Wow... anyway we'll see what happens...
Good luck, and let us know how it works out...
