I have a major concern here: I have no more "mmcblk1" in /dev
(even with a card inside)

However, mmcblk0 works well and mounts correctly to /media/mmc2, as expected.

What does it mean?
Definitely hardware problem?

Thanks for the help.

Max, have you solved this problem somehow? Now I have N800 with exactly the same symptoms and wonder what to do with it...

* You may also want to try restarting your device if you have tried, as some cards will require this!
1 made sure the battery back panel and external cover are both closed.
2 restarted the control panel to check the new memory
3 the internal card reader sometimes has issues if it's not inserted correct, make sure it's pushed all the way back(not too hard now) and then pull the clip over

# if you accidently format your large memory card, you will need to connect it via USB to your computer to re-format it to sizes over 2gb

Also:
I have installed the kernel and successfully have 4GB SDHC Kingston card in my n800... too bad I can't put it in my internal slot and increase the internal memory by more than 128 MB though is there a patch for this anywhere?

With the SDHC kernel installed there should be no reason the card shouldn't work in the internel slot!

Unfortunately not. I still have this very annoying problem. No card will work in the external slot (even after reboot/restart/flash/SDHC Kernel etc.).
So I now "only" have a 4GB SD Card in the Internal Slot (and nothing in the external).

I'll ask for a repair or exchange as soon as I get back to my country.

However, I have one side question for those having a working external slot:
When you put your card in, do you have a small "click" sound when the card is in place (and clicking/pushing again will release the card)

If yes, it means my problem is hardware related, coz I have no sound/click feeling at all.

Thanks
Max

The external slot does not support the ejector functionality that is present in the 770 slot. On the N800, there should be no click and pushing the card will not release it as you have to pull it out - there's a small indentation at the top of the card designed to allow a fingernail to extract the card from the slot.

Thank you Milhouse for this info... Actually I did not remember how does the slot behaved at the very beginning.

For those still reading this thread, the problem remains on my device... Any solutions?

Thanks
Max.

@denn: have you found a solution yet?

To others, would anyone please help me (us?) to solve this problem somehow?
The external slot is still not working. Can anything be done (check that the slot functions using commands, etc.)??

Thanks,
Max

Hi,

My N800 (i have it since yesterday) has also the problem that no memory card work in the external slot. I have testet with 3 memory cards. The cards work in the internal slot fine.

has anyone tried opening it up and tweaking the pins a bit, and/or trying to wedge the card down to press on the internal contacts a little better ?

just a thought....
