Can I just chalk the problem up to heavy usage? I didn't think I was using the phone that harshly, but Idk.
all phones including house phones will get hot when held to the face for long periods of time. your head is a warm part of the body and it will trap heat between your face and the phone, adding that heat to the heat from the transmitter.

basic science

how hot are you talking?

everyone is mentioning hot but cant you give us an estimate in degrees or something? ive had my device flat out in my house which is normally around 22c ambient temp.

its never got hot to the touch but definately gets very warm when i hammer the wifi and CPU. this is normal. id estimate it can get up to 40c whilst under stress for long periods. battery NEVER GETS HOT TO THE TOUCH THOUGH!!!

If you battery is getting uncomfortably hot something is faulty. warm is ok but if its hitting 45c ish id start worrying. 60 and your likelly to have a leak or a bang

It is definitely uncomfortably hot. The battery, that is.
Sorry, no estimation.

It appears mine gets hot like everyone's does when attatched to the PC. But some people are saying theirs gets hot like mine, others are saying otherwise.

the heat is produced due to the electric magnetic radiation heating up the human cells close to the phone... the radiation send by the phone is the same as used in a micro wave. thats why they still dont know if it is harmfull to the human body. DECT phones used for home calling have a very low frequenty that s far more destructive to the human cells. thats why there is now eco DECT wich has a higher frequency

most people do not know this fact. its not as save as most people think.

if you have enough n900's you can heat up your food!

my n900 gets hot with long phone calls, and if the cpu is constant @ 100% (not overclocked)

if overclocked @1ghz, the warmest temp is 35°c, after 20-60mins of playing vgba

i believe that is normal. all that heats up is the battery, and every battery heats up when charge is decreased at a short period of time. imho

i know this is not 100% relevant but its good to know. the n900 has a SAR level of 0.8 watts per Kg thats twice the amount of most phones
