well, if symbian is ok for you, go with the n8.

if you want a maemo-style OS, then be strong and wait for the meego-device

That does sound like a nice device, just wonder how expensive it'll be and if nokia will actually come out with that device.

Will the N8 be capable of running "current" Symbian apps or is the new OS require new code? Sux that my 900 does everything I need/want, save for slingmobile.

n8 is capable of running s60v3, s60v5, symbian^1 & 2 since n8 is just like s60v5 with preinstalled QT and a different interface. But symbian^4 lol! It's symbian which doesn't support symbian & was replaced by QT. In short

n8 = symbian & QT applications
symbian^4 = QT applications only and as they say better interface.

It's like symbian^3 is the fusion state of Goku and Vegetta while symbian^4 is Goku alone simple as that

The N8 comes with Flash Lite 4, which supports Flash 10.1.

Symbian can do a lot of the things that Maemo can that I have seen mentioned in this thread (RDP, SSH, etc) there is a lot of software for it, you just need to look.

About hardware, the CPU is an ARM11 at 600+ MHz, which for Symbian it is decent; but the GPU is a very powerful Broadcom, from what I hear, it is one of the most powerful in a mobile right now.

I would wait for year's end to see the new MeeGo device.
