My best suggestion is to partition a microSD card and use one of my rootfs files on it. You can download it and put it on a partition with a desktop computer, if you have Linux on it (even an Ubuntu LiveCD booted over a Windows PC would work), or if you are a real masochist, you can use GParted on the N900 itself and partition the MicroSD card and put the rootfs on it.

Qole, I found it easier just to use your existing easy-debian image to build my own image directly on the N900.

I am using a 2nd ext2 partition on microsd card (1st partition is fat so N900 doesn't complain).

The steps go something like this:
  1. sudo debian
  2. mount /dev/mmcblk1p2 /mnt/debian
  3. apt-get whatever you need according to:
    http://wiki.debian.org/Debootstrap
  4. copy /etc/passwd and /etc/group into chroot
  5. modify and use easy-chroot scripts to chroot into fresh image

This is a lot easier than dealing with images and qemu and what-not.

extendedping: You can pester me all you want, but I'm not building you a "server edition". You've been given some very useful pointers; this is honestly a project that you can do yourself. Especially if you want to learn Linux, like you say you do.

jeeze I feel I stepped on some toes today, did not mean to offend anyone. by the way I did not want it like a personal thing for me, I really thought there would be more people chiming in and wanting the same thing, but I was wrong
