To generate the tar.gz files for my pyQt projects I installed scratchbox. 3GB of data is a lot just to create the packages, how ever once it is done it just works.
Then I wrote a little build script which increases the revision on every packaging. This whay I do not have to do it manually.

If somebody is interested, please let me know. Its just some python lines which I use as well in my apps to read in the version file.

And BTW:
It also took me days to figure out how to package a file. Also I never found the button for promoting
If you have questions, have a look in the IIRC. The people there are very expirienced and usually willing to help.

Whoa, that's a slight overkill... I wonder if people would be interested in a Python version of my tutorial ? It's not that much more difficult and you can still do it with QtCreator (MADDE, essentially) even if you can't exactly develop Python apps in it (yet).

mno@8 is right.
There are many hurdles to take until a package can be promoted. I can upload
it to extras-devel with the extras-assistant and the autobuilder does not show
any error messages. But the package interface shows up one error after another.
If I fix one error, the next will be displayed. When all errors are fixed, the next
errors appear when trying to promote. I think, the autobuilder should check
more and show errors before the packages reaches extras-devel. And now I
don't know, how to fix these errors. There are several package versions now,
with only one small fix in the policies, which is becoming a real mess in the
extras-devel repo.
I packaged cups, which works really good on the N900, but I failed with the
promotion. I'd like to share it with the community, but I am one step before
giving it up.
