It won't die on you. For it to die it needs to run at a consistently high temperature to burn out the core. Whack it up to 1000Mhz (1Ghz) and if it's not stable it will simply reboot. kernel-power has a safety net in that it won't load your custom profile after a random reboot.

If it runs at 1Ghz, and doesn't reboot, doesn't get too hot, it's fine. If it starts to reboot after a while or gets uncomfortably hot, downclock it to regain stability. There's no chance of upping the cooling, so the only solution is downclocking.

Also try it out at 1.15Ghz (max allowable clock speed in kernel-power) just to say you have been there.

]f you are only overclocking to 800MHz (805MHz) I would suggest enabling smart reflex and the lowest voltage profile possible.

Hi, I have been a regular reader on TMO for a while now, but have only recently signed up. I have tried OC'ing recently and ended up bricking my device. I have finally summed up the willpower to try again but when i type the command
"kernel-config load lv"

I get the message:

"This kernel version 2.6.28-omapl is not supported"
"please make sure..... etc"
"To reinstall the power user kernel run:"
"etc............"

I'm dual booting Nitdroid, which i think is causing the problem, ut i'm not sure what I have to do different, can someone help please?

I assume the "etc......" part is where it tells you that it only works with power kernel and you're not using it

Boot the power kernel and overclocking will work. Perhaps this will help:

Had it at 900MHz with SmartReflex on.. It didnt like it :P rebooting as i am typing this.. What went wrong?

Well this is exactly what it says

"this kernel version 2.6.28-omapl is not supported
please make sure that kernel-power is installed and running.
if you have just installed the kernel, you need shutdown and boot to activate it.
To reinstall the power user kernel run:
'apt-get install --reinstall kernel-power kernel-power-flasher'"

Kernel-power-settings and kernel-power-flasher are installed already.I should be getting a boot option for the power kernel, but i'm not??? there are only 2 options for me maemo 2.6.28_omap1 and nitdroid.
Why can i not see a third boot option?

smart reflex only works up to 805MHz. It is a good tradoff between battery and cpu.

Allrigtht, so thats what went wrong. I have been at 1150 without SR, that did work. But if I keep my max frequency at 805MHz, would it be a good idea to turn on smartrelex?

Yes! the battery life savings are insane! some report easily 1/4 longer battery.

I use:

When device is locked:250-500, starving voltage profile with SR.
When device unlocked:500-805, starving voltage profile with SR.

when under heavy use I press turbo mode button which 'timeouts' back to the above:
600-1000, starving voltage profile, screen blanking @1.5minutes.

This is all automated with dbus-scripts. It allows for max battery whenThe thing is in my pocket(most of the time) and power when I am actually using it.
