I'm looking at something new too, and i have to admit there is nothing in the market that interests me...
Holding out hope for a decent samsung galaxy s2 maybe or similar in the coming months.

I have a Samsung Captivate. To be honest, stock firmware isn't ideal and suffers from a bit of lag. But once you get either a lagfix (ie. Voodoo lagfix) and perhaps a leaner firmware (ie. Cognition, among others) then you'll love your Captivate.

Same for the Galaxy S. And both out of the box suffer from a bit of GPS issues too - both fixable.

Matters on what you want to do and spend.

I've said this over and over again : if you're going away from Maemo and you want the same "openness" as you get from it, then you might want to stick with Nexus-lineup. Nexus S is Google-phone which means, that you'll get the most updates and it's easy to root.

And to have even relatively good task-switcher install the Itching Thumb, I think it is in the Market. If you don't care about the "openness" then go for e.g. Galaxy S. Nexus S might be rebranded also, don't know under what name though. That's exactly why I follow only the pure Android-ones, e.g. Made with Google (aka Nexus-lineup).

Did you consider WebOS? Don't know about the current OS-version though but I'm looking very much forward to the Summer-release of the new HP Pre's with WebOS 3.

You said "amost enywhere", so does it mean that it works somewhere (where there is a very strong signal)? If so, it sounds like the internal antenna has been disconnected from the cellular radio. If you can you should try opening it to see if there is any loose connector.

This has been reported by several people, and happened to me as well. Reflashing without including any backup data was the cure.

EDIT: just read Mara's post. An intermittant problem could very well be as he describes (and he has solid experience there).

I had a feeling it was down to software but as i have not experianced this fault i could not give a proper answer save to re-flash but you seem to have hit the nail right on, well done Texy.

They may auto upgrade the plan once you go over a certain data limit. Did any of these fixes work?

The phone has been by my friend since last Monday. He's still messing around with it.
