I bought a Wayfinder BT with Sirf-III (same as in TomToms) without license for about 25 GBP + S&H on eBay UK. Thats about 30 EUR or 45 USD. Later I've seen similar devices for cheaper than 25 GBP (between 10 and 15 GBP) _with_ Sirf-III. I rather buy from eBay DE, but I couldn't find it there.

The manual suggests its actually meant for mobile phones explaining how to use the device together with the Symbian platform.

Battery life is 6 hours. The battery is replacable, and I'm using a different adapter than stock (UK) one with slightly lower output V and mA. It also came with a car charger.

It works flawless. Almost instant lock, very good receiving (even indoor and in tunnel), haven't lost lock thus far except when battery was almost empty, and with navigation there is no more lag either all this in contrast with N810 on-board GPS.

I haven't tried it with my laptop or mobile phone yet.

EU civilians need to pay import tax when buying something _outside_ of EU above 22 EUR although one might be lucky (e.g. never had to pay this when buying CDs, and imported a 'gifted' Zaurus from Japan). Before 1 january 2009 it'll be 150 EUR, some EU states will implement this earlier or have already implemented this. The implementation might not be announced well by the media. OTOH, shipping costs to/from US appear to have risen a bit compared to 2007.

The manual does mention an "optional travel charger" and a "cigarette adapter" but I don't see direct mention or picture of an ordinary household charger.
See if it allows an adapter to be directly plugged in it, USB (and mind what type), or if you can take out the battery perhaps you have an adapter for that. There are also car adapter to normal adapter converters IIRC.

Now, check out the output V and mA of the official adapter and see if you have one not in use or not always in use which fits and delivers a same or slightly lower output V (or less important) mA. Slightly higher V might work too, but could be a risk.

Computer Geeks is currently selling the Holux M-1200 for $37.99. Adding shipping and handling lessens the impressiveness of the deal, as is usually the case with Computer Geeks offers, but it's still a decent price, at least to within the continental U.S. Outside, I imagine the shipping prices become ridiculous.
Thanks for the notice. I wound up purchasing it (though I'm on East Coast) so shipping was 11 dollars. But still cheaper then most places I was looking at.

You can buy a charger very cheaply, which plugs into AC and has a cigarette lighter output. I have one for use with the few devices I own which have DC cables only. I also have some USB chargers, both AC and DC, which plug into either an AC outlet or a cigarette lighter, and have a USB port for output, for charging whatever uses a standard USB charger. These are all cheap, ~US$5, and work well for me.

I'm very happy to see this thread, especially since there is ample opportunity to challenge a seller if anything is said out of line, and anyone is free to offer different points of view. Accessories seems to be a perfect place for it, even better than buy and sell, since many of the contributors are not buying or selling anything.

I may just buy the Holux M-1200, since my older Holux has been great.

Can anyone tell me something about the costs of using the Smart2go maps, which I saw mentioned on the Computer Geeks site? I looked at several sites and didn't get a handle on what it costs.

I don't know, is it even compatible with the NITs?

I thought the Smart2go thingy was only for Symbian phones.
