dpkg does NOT use repositories
it only uses LOCAL files

to use the repositories, use command

apt-get install mc

try to disable extras-devel and extras-testing repo, too.
when those repo are enabled, HAM/FAM will force you to install mc package on those repo which is depend on libncursesw5 (ver 4.7.4-maemo3).
use the other one from extras repo (ver 4.6.2-pre1-1maemo10)

would nearly agree with that... if it wasn't for the fact that i have 4.7.4 installed on my N900.
why did it installed on mine (i did a "clone install" only a couple weeks ago...) but doesn't want on his?
except for the sygalib & my-maemo repos, i have the same repos abuakram should have too, now...

then again, better 4.6.2 then none, of course...

by the way I installed fapman and gave it a try

conflicts: mc-common, suidmanager (<<0.52)

as you mentioned earlier

looks like you don't have access to those repositories after all
doesn't make any freaking sense
it's open source software, for crying out loud

thus either you disable testing & extra-dev & install 4.6.2
then, after re-enabling the two repositories, make an upgrade
it will offer 4.7.4
tap on it & in the top right corner there is an icon w/ 4 squares
tap on that & block that version (4.7.4 thus)

alternatively, install it manually with dpkg using libncursesw5_5.7+20081213-1.maemo1+0m5_armel.deb i uploaded previously

signing off for today %-(

did all what u mentioned & "Coredumb"

succeded force installing libncursesw5

but failed installing mc normally or with dpkg -i

this was the response
home/user/MyDocs # dpkg -i mc_4.7.4-maemo3_armel.deb
Selecting previously deselected package mc.
(Reading database ... 29591 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking mc (from mc_4.7.4-maemo3_armel.deb) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of mc:
mc depends on file; however:
Package file is not installed.
dpkg: error processing mc (--install):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Processing triggers for catoriseplus ...
################################################## ##############
Errors were encountered while processing:
mc
anyway Misterc, I appreciate you standing by with me for hours, could have spent them elsewhere better.

if another idea crossed ur head don't forget to post it

thanks

abuakram, did you already enable the repo mentioned by ivanrajkovic in http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...8&postcount=14?
because when I disable those repository, the "not installed" error occurs
