Edit the file you were cat-ing, so that before any command there's

i dont fully understand what you mean. could you explain as am just an average n900 user

Your package system seems to be in a bad state. Try to forcefully remove the package and correct things later.
Please try

sudo gainroot
dpkg -r --force-remove-reinstreq osso-pdf-viewer
apt-get update
apt-get install -f
dpkg -a --configure

echo shows some text.
the idea is to determine, which program cause segmentation fault. But try michaaa's approach, this may be easier
