I am streaming my movie collection via mounted smb shares under titan's kernel (http://wiki.maemo.org/Kernel_Power#CIFS_Support). Works really nice with all my movie files I've tried so far. Only problem is that my CPU runs at 100% usage (850mhZ) during playback and the phone gets really warm.

I just found out, that when i open the GUI of VLC player the CPU usage automatically goes up to 100% (without opening any media).
anyone experiencing the same weird behavior?

Edit: when i open a movie files in x-term with the command cvlc i get about 60% CPU usage at 600MhZ while playing the movie. So it seems that the GUI pushes the CPU usage up to its maximum. Anobody knows why this is happening?
I'd really like to use VLC as my default player with the GUI!

I couldn't find my N900 anywhere! But I knew it was somewhere around the house... So I ssh'ed in to the N900, and used vlc to play an mp3... then I just listened for the music!

Turns out it was outside on the back deck...

I have installed vlc, but when I load a video (tried both sd and 720 mkv's), I get audio but the first frame of the video just freezes.

Is there something I can do (without having to convert files)?

What would you need HD for anyway?
IIRC any video over 800x480 will lag.

I don't need it to be HD, but a lot of the files on my htpc are HD, and I like to just copy 20 or 30 onto my n900 every so often. I'd like them to play, even if not in HD
