Yeah, through the iterations of trials, I changed configurations several times, the earlier post is what I got when I didn't select an option. I think I saw a comment in earlier posts from you that it shouldn't look that way and still another point about selecting the alt-shift option, so I just ended up with that.

I looked the other day and tried altering and/or removing various FDI files including getting my lshal to report pc105 for the input.xkb.model value too, but for some reason, I was still getting the default Nokia keyboard behavior. However, I didn't look that deep: mostly looking for nokiarx51 references rather than input and button references. Any recommendations as to anything in particular I should I be looking for as I search for them?

Hi there, I have come across some problems. Have installed already without problems seemingly.

Firstly the error message expected on the first time of opening reoccurs every time upon opening from settings menu, is that normal? Have tried reinstalling ext-kbd.

Second I cannot see a connected USB keyboard in the "app." I am missing some guide I think, because it will simply not find it. Do I need extra drivers besides ext-kbd?

I noticed in some vague posts ext-kbd is nessacery for usb-hostmode, correct? My goal here (obviously) is to te able to use an usb keyboard with my N900. I have tried h-e-n for this numerous times, maybe my problem is ext-kbd related though since I am able to connect a pendrive via h-e-n.

My kbd is a full-size Hewlett Packard KUS0133 200mA.

I've attached several USB keyboards to my n900, didn't face any problem. Of course in order to use USB keyboard you must have h-e-n installed.

In h-e-n UI follow normal procedure for connecting usb flash drive for example, just skip mount step. Have in mind that keyboard is most probably "Low Speed" or "Full Speed" USB. After that open extkbd UI, your keyboard should be listed there.

If it is not, please get dmesg output and post it here.

BTW you need to setup keyboard layout only once.

I'm trying to attach a Solidtek ASK3462 keyboard to my N900.


I installed extkbd, extmou, and rebooted and re-paired....
Keyboard and its touchpad were up and running!!!

Went to Setting > Personalization > External Keyboard; and set it to

Generic 105-key (intl) PC
USA
Intl

and SAVE.

...no change! It still acts just like the internal keyboard.
Alphabetic keys, Function keys, Cursor keys all work.
Numeric keys, shift key, symbols do not work.

Symbols and numbers and be accessed with a long press.

And as a test only, I even tried setting the keyboard to Dvorak.
(i.e. a change that I would definitely notice, if it worked)

No change.

I then spent the past 8+ hours reading about xkb and re-reading your posts.

I'm beat.... help...

• Am I doing anything obviously wrong?
• What should happen after changing the keyboard definition?
  The manufacturer has moved many of the symbols keys, so I don't expect them to work.
  But the number keys are right where they should be; so shouldn't they should work?
  How about SHIFT and CAPS-LOCK?

Hi I have a big request.
Please help with a package extkbd, I bought a keyboard (http://www.media-tech.pl/media-tech/...sets/MT1416-US)
and I have a problem with mapping keys. I used the command setxkbmap - after he got the number keys and Polish characters fn + a =ą
There is still a problem with the ctrl key does not work.
I have to press the Fn key twice, the same shift.
The keyboard is easy debian cloned, I have no number keys, I have all the Fn +.
I would like to map the other keys such as wines and Multimedia
How do I edit a mapping

I got question on slightly different topic.

I'm planning to buy mini-keyboard (as my travel one), connected through USB or bluetooth. I've found some at good prices, but they got somehow strange layout (88 keys, for example).

I know extkbd got many different layouts bundled-in, but none of them seems (at least judging by name) matching any of keyboard I've found. So, here goes my question - can I rest assured, that I'll be (probably) able to use such a keyboard without problem - if not by bundled layouts, maybe it's 100% sure that I can add my own ones, or submit something here, that can be included in extkbd update?

Excuse my (quite possibly) ignorance on this. I would just like to know that there is (relatively easy) doable way of adding such a keyboard, even if it include modifying some layout or whatsnot.

As some excuse for me, I can tell that my experiences with connecting USB keyboard via extkbd were quite easy - I just connected my (rather non popular, ho ever 105 keys generic) desktop keyboard, and it worked out of the box, 100%

I copied everything I could from my ubuntu xkb to the n900, but still the same.
Work only letter keys, shift, enter, ctrl + f (alt, shift after a double actuating)
setxkbmap works after all, no ctrl + backspace (physical keyboard n900-bushes, I have to restart that it works)

Please help I do not know what to do

I think I already told you to not use setxkbmap. If you insist on using it ok, just reminding you that this is EXTKBD thread, not SETXKBMAP thread.
