48GX: Thanks for the sugestion, but I think this thread is mostly on topic and everyone suggested "just one part" in one post and I tried to answer those who I thought a answer could help make things more clear. A new thread wouldn't look much different to this one and would split the reader's focus between several locations.
A wiki would in the end look like the yet to write detail specs of GTA04-NeoN board. You eventually will find it on some website and I'll point you at that location then.
A sidenote to users: you can edit and even delete your posts in this forum, if you feel you want to do this to improve the Signel/Noise-ratio of this or any other thread you contributed.

@Misiak: I disagree :-) We at GolDeliCo are willing to add any late changes needed to make the device more attractive for you, as long as the original GTA04 design is not too much affected. We need to decide on a per-case basis which change can be done and which is impossible.
Thus, let the suggestions roll please - just pretty please do the tedious job of reading the complete thread before you post. Maybe your question resp suggestion already been posted and even got a reply from Neo team. If we point you to a previous post that's the reply to yours, you might consider deleteing your post or editing it so it more clearly explains what's new in your idea.

many thanks for all the invaluable feedback
jOERG

Im keeping a close eye on this, i have just one more question, So everyone this buys this will need to have their own N900 shell avalible is that correct? Are you just selling the guts of this ie mainboard etc.. We will need our own screen and shell is that right?

How do people go if the have no N900 shell or screen on hand?

unknown.obvious,
Maybe it is defeatism on my part but WTF are we supposed to do. I dont want a NSA megablob like android or iOS on my phone, at least we can do something somewhat open. Does it freak me out that GPS is on the blob firmware(has its own spy OS?)modem chip, you bet, hopefully we can at least software switch the antenna.
As a young nerd I had a pager and a ham radio to make quick calls on my local repeater autopatch, I guess I sold out but even without a light speed processor it is the OS I like, the N900 has most of the gadgets I need magnetometer, OTG, NFC, alt, and a better bluetooth version sound pretty good to me.

The problem of the video quality with skype is not the camera, but the SW

But, concerning new mainboard development, wouldn't it be possible to replace that crapcam with some other module (the open-hw low-res one mentioned somewhere in this thread, afaik by joerg_rw, compatible with N900) which, being different, has different drivers (software) and would have better quality than the current one? afaik it can be accessed via v4l interface, and I guess the open replacement is also v4l compatible (if it isn't, but has open drivers, I volunteer to write that compatibility layer, if that would be the blocking factor, I can even sacrifice few weeks' sleep for this cause), so that shouldn't make too many problems sw-wise (correct me if I'm wrong). There could be a problem, however, with the cost of that cam unit... and it may not fit in place of the old cam (I don't know the actual sizes of current sensor and the new and open sensor, but if the open one appears to be physically bigger, it may not fit in right place in N900's case )

True. Criticism is fine as long as you present an alternative. Without it it is just the rant of a troll.
