Of course there is the argument that even though the heat dissipation is low, the temperature changes are more rapid and may lead to premature thermal failure anyway..

my "/sys/devices/platform/omap34xx_temp/temp1_input" is some times 18 or 11 and my room temp is +23C.
modprobe bq27x00_battery cat /sys/class/power_supply/bq27200-0/temp

apparently your N900 has a builtin freezer
simply ignore that file - it's not reliable.
The battery temperature could be more interesting
