I only hope that at least you're OK in terms of health.
With your know-how I think you'll be able to dodge that dead end, professionally speaking.

Neo900 was a good dream, and will remain a dream.
We all took a risk, and you took the biggest of all.
It didn't work out, but it was fun, and it was worth it!

All the best.

So what are the possibilities that you can open up everything, even the Gerbers etc.
I know many components were EOL but it might be something that can live on like Arduino does on they grey market as much as legit, maybe catch some consulting when they cant make it work.
Every business I have helped crash into a mountainside has at least been a boon to the FOSS community.
Thanks for the epic try Joerg

Out of curiousity: What would have been STEP2 like? Not like N900, because components are unobtainable (and not powerful enough to run modern websites) by now. Not like N950 because Fxtec is apparently taking up this niche.

I am still looking forward to resistive touch screen (like Pyra?), pocket-able form factor (neither Fxtec nor Pyra can be called small), stylus detector (if possible), RGB backlight for hardware keyboard (that has way too many user-cases and looks nice), sensors (pressure sensor to detect heartbeats? besides obvious altitude estimation and such) and hackerbus (detecting lightning from a long distance away?).

Thank you. Best wishes.

Per aspera ad astra...

P.S. I have got Motorola A780, a cellular PDA running the Linux operating system, for my collection. No stylus though yet - previous owner lost it.

P.P.S. Would be nice to make sure Neo900 resources and schematics are not lost. Even if it will not be built...

It's a shame and I agree that any work done should not be lost in terms of schematics, design concepts such as modem isolation etc. Unfortunately as we all know, it's a common issue made worse by being a niche market.

I really want to see FxTec succeed. It's the closest we've got to N900, N9, N950, (prototype whose name I forgot) in a long time. Same with Purism, I really like the libhandy concept and running on Wayland opens possibilities such as Vulkan using libhybris to enable GTK4. I would love to see Leste run on both but, as my previous experiments show, I'm interested to see where it could go in terms of newer UI/ updated look and feel once it becomes stable and more feature complete.

Joerg_rw, it would be great to see some of your input in a smaller, stress free project.

The FxTec is still a closed Android blob driver device as far as I can see. As long as that is true we are pretty much screwed on getting a real GNU-Linux backend including x11 UI onto the device especially since a converged Linux-Android Linux kernel seems to have gone the way of fusion for power and true AI; far in the future with no good plan to get there.

I get by with LineageOS for microG though even my Nexus 7 just got EOL'ed by LineageOS so the microG also has ended updates; because drivers.

I would need for it to come out before I can say if we are screwed or not. But not ready to throw. out the ONLY viable keyboard phone just yet. I hope with testing it may end up being more usable than we thought. Or not

Skip to 14 minutes. Pyra phone: unfortunately no keyboard (and only proof of concept) but at least something tangible and ticks the box mentioned above.

I get that you are responding to xman ...
but this info t-b, should really be started in its own thread ..

A Pyra phone is a whole different bag of cats and has precious little to do with the now dead neo...
