Hey, I was hoping someone was able to help me with my problem with getting MSN & AIM to connect after installing RTCOMM.

After a long hassle of installing RTCOMM sucessfully, I proceeded to input the account settings of both my msn and aim account. For some reason however, whenever I try to enable it, it keeps giving me an 'Network Error' sign... AIM I've gotten it to connect twice.. very briefly for it got disconnected almost right away as well.

Is there something i'm missing?? all the passwords and screennames are correct, and google talk is working flawlessly still.

Any input would be much appreciated

You probably have Pidgin already installed and are trying to use it's version of libpurple with RTCOMM which will not work.

Please see this post by qwerty12 in another thread. It appears that the RTComm Beta has a Diablo-friendly version that is not linked from their web page. You need to install version 0.7, not 0.5, the one the web page says to download.

thanks for help~

zerojay: so what you mean is I'd have to uninstall all of pidgin in order for RTCOMM to function? or just uninstall libpurple? where would I get the necessary libpurple for RTCOMM then?

qole: i installed verision 0.7 and uninstalled the other version but still doesn't work :\

thanks

Oh great. I've been following this, installed the update as above, cannot connect to MSN still. But my Telepathy is stuck at 0.1-1 - the 0.2 update won't update for me at all... incompatible.

After my first (and I hope last!) reboot cycle a few months back, I've been trying to play it extra safe with system wide packages, avoided the RTCom beta, and resisted toying with apt-get.

I gave Pidgin a shot but was really missing the way RTCom integrated with the rest of the N810. Whilst Pidgin was still installed, and my repository list as prior the reflash (including RTCom and Collabora) I seemed to be able to to restore IM connectivity for MSN, Yahoo, along with Google Talk and SIP and of course XMPP / Jabber.

I did also have ICQ working pre-flash (with RTCom Beta package) by replacing the libpurple file, kindly provided earlier in this thread, but attempts since have failed.

I have since uninstalled Pidgin.

Anyhow, these are relevant apps I currently have installed:
  • account-plugin-haze - 0.1-1 (collabora)
  • osso-accounts-plugin-idle - 0.2-1.4 (nokia)
  • osso-acocounts-plugin-salut - 0.2-1.1 (nokia)
  • telepathy-haze - 0.1.4-0collabora1 (collabora)
  • telepathy-salut - 0.2.0-1 (Debian Telepathy)

Interestingly, RTCom is currently showing as "Not installable" missing packages "telepathy-haze (>=0.2.0-1collabora1).

My current repository list:

Code:
Nokia-N810-23-14:~# cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hildon-application-manager.list
deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ diablo free non-free
deb http://packages.collabora.co.uk/maemo chinook haze salut idle
deb http://repository.maemo.org/ chinook free non-free
deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ chinook free non-free
deb http://repository.maemo.org/rtcomm chinook free
deb http://packages.gizmoproject.com/chinook chinook user
deb http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/certified/ diablo user
deb http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/non-certified/ diablo user
deb http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/updates/diablo-2/ ./
Nokia-N810-23-14:~#
Hope this helps anyone trying to install without beta package.

Let me know if you'd like to check any other files etc.

I installed the RTComm Beta 0.7 onto a new tablet, and I couldn't get MSN to connect (Network Error). I found that I had to downgrade my libpurple0 file (the Pidgin libraries). This required me to do the following (as root) to get MSN working again:

Code:
apt-get install libpurple0=2.4.3-1collabora1

My messenger support has been working fine for ages, but just a few weeks ago it stopped working with "Network error".

It was about the same time the new Live Messenger Beta was released that had the ability to log in from multiple locations.

Has there been some protocol change?
