No problem I get mail for both trackers. bugs.maemo.org is just a convenient method for users already having a maemo.org account to report bugs.

gPodder 0.17.0-3 should hit Chinook and Diablo Extras-Testing soon. The changes: Dialogs like the episode shownotes, the new episodes available dialog, the advanced configuration editor and the find new podcasts dialog are all displayed as "normal" windows now.

Tell me how you like this change (better/worse than before), and I will push the package to Extras afterwards.

I gave this a try for the first time today even though I didn't even know what a Podcast was.

It's got a great interface and is super easy to use.

Only trouble is that a video podcast runs way too chunky and can't be viewed correctly

I went into offline mode and loaded the podcast with only mplayer running.

Is this common?

The screen for the video was quite small even (I have zoom=false thinking I would see better performance).

So are there any video podcasts that can be viewed well on the tablet?

I've noticed that the only thing mplayer can handle without using a video converting program is cartoons or anime.

I'm also using mplayer to play all videos on the N810. It seems to work better compared to the built-in media player for some videos. It also supports more formats, I think.

If you get the chance to select the feed/quality of a Video Podcast, start out with the lowest quality one, and if you are unhappy with the quality, try to pick a better feed and see if the performance still is OK.

One feed that definitely works:

http://www.rocketboom.com/rss/3gp.xml

Some other video podcasts (Tech-related) can be found on:

http://revision3.com/

For the Revision3 videocasts, select "Small Xvid", which works on the tablets with only minor hickups.

Maybe some other users can share their video podcasts that work fine on the N8x0 tablets? I'd be happy to compile an OPML file and publish it online, so that new users can subscribe to a sample list of video podcasts.

Actually, a podcast from rocketboom was the first video episode I downloaded.

It looked great and I thought the screen was small enough to run correctly (maybe 480x320) but it played like junk.

I downloaded another one which was much smaller (maybe 320x240) and it actually ran great! I had to change zoom=true in mplayer since the screen was so tiny.

But yeah, a podcast compilation would be a nice added topping to your latest release, especially if it included entertainment, movies, gaming, sports, and episodes on running applications on the n8x0 if any exists.

Seems to look much better now, yeah. The "Edit selected Podcast" window is still very cluttered and damaged looking, though. Thanks!

By the way, did you know that you can subscribe to YouTube channels with gPodder (go to the "Find new podcasts" window and then the YouTube tab). Some YouTube channels that you might want to add to gPodder (just search for the usernames that I have highlighted in bold):
  • tabletschool (lots of tutorials)
  • thoughtfix (real-world usage videos)
  • lcukmaemo (videos demonstrating liqbase)

The videos downloaded from YouTube by gPodder are in a such a low quality that they play flawlessly on the tablets. When Maemo 5 devices come out, gPodder on these devices will obviously download higher-quality videos from YouTube, but for all Maemo 4 devices, downloading low-quality videos will be the norm.

Oh, and if someone wants to share their N8x0-related videos for the community, I'd be happy to transcode them in a very good format and offer the resulting videos as a video podcast to which gPodder users can subscribe.

Oh, yeah. Forgot about that ugly dialog Now, in 0.17.0-4, which should be in Extras-Devel for Chinook and Diablo in the next hour or so, the "Edit selected podcast" dialog should also behave like a normal window, and I've hidden the iPod synchronization settings (something only relevant on the Desktop version, except if you hook up an iPod using the N8x0's USB host mode.. hehe), so everything in the dialog now fits the screen (at least for me..).
