Was looking at the N900 Teardown paying very close attention to where the mic was located.

It looks to me that the mic is in a housing and has contact pads that attach it to the main board. It appeared to remain in the case when the mainboard was removed without any hard connectors. It took a LOT of willpower for me not to crack open my broken N900 but one thing I didn't try was thumping (within reason) on it to see if the mic might work. (I don't recommend this.) It seems very likely from the above video that the mic could be slight misaligned and cause the issue.

Anyone have any detailed pics of the inside of an N900 yet?

Had the mic problem on my first device. Worked fine for ~1 hour, and then nothing.

Nokia FSS Helsinki however agreed to change it to a new device without any fuzz. The ironic part of this is that the mic worked when i returned it to the store.

They told me that this was the first problem they've had. (However they got it for sale just the evening before).

it happened all of a sudden, but I'm using plenty of devel repo apps. didn't do anything special to make it happen, so can't begin to recreate it.

Threads merged.

EDIT: I've also expanded the thread title. Okay, it looks a bit funny, but it should help the new thread title matching algorithm locate this thread for other people who come here with the problem.

Again: don't post full IMEIs! They might end up being "recycled" by fraudsters.

I am looking forward to get my copy of the N900 bugfree.
I am quite sure that the last delay between the first dispatch of the phones and this week was exactly for that, to remove the series of possible faulty phones.
OK, I've got to admit: new infos: 2 guys with some dead pixels here in Germany, but no dead mics.... Oh, yes, and one guy with a slide-mechanism thats makes some grinding noises....

Good looking on editing that IMEI. But it is in the email for thread subscribers, so for anyone else, DON'T POST IMEI OR OTHER PERSONAL DATA ONLINE
