It means "root file system" - if you're used to Windows, from a user perspective it's a bit like drive C: (OK, everyone else, I know this is plain wrong from a technical point of view, but it gets the point across, doesn't it ...)

So it's not something you want to delete (you don't delete C: ...), it's something you want to delete things from to make space available again.

To make space available, uninstall applications you got from extras-devel and extras-testing. Many of those are in early stages of development and use much more space on the root file system than they should.
Good explanation Benny - but you will now have to walk him through doing that!

- there needs to be a pre-installed - 'save me' button for people who have used extras dev and extras testing.... because its obvious people are going to use them, if they are available, if if there are a million warnings....

I could see my shared media before this upgrade, yes. - Could be that there was a bug that prevented it from showing up in your setup, so this new firmware brings new feature to you.

Diff them and should be able to see the code for red pill to reinsert
Or, y'know, you could just go to maemo.gitorious.org, find an earlier version of HAM and build that - or revert the commit which removed it.

Red pill's not some super secret sauce which is attempted to be hidden in the source code; HAM is quite readable source and builds nicely in Scratchbox.

No need to go ferreting around inside firmware images!

Ooo you are right, the slider does feel alot lighter now!

Just realised it has changed my theme from the orange one to the blue one - oh well, not an issue for me!

Uupdates should check the package listing after a successful restart to ense that application repositorys are called if required.

I'm not familiar with apt-thingies... I'm one of those who'll miss red pill mode. (I thought the interface was cool, entering "matrix and all that...)

So: Is it possible to select applications by repository from a script?

So there could be a script that selects everything from -devel and -testing, uninstalls it and disables the reps. Would maybe help in a few situations. Having such an app in Extras as "saveme" could be a good idea.

The orange theme is still available, it did that for me too, but I changed it back to the orange one (digital nature).

At least I'm not the only one

Sorry if this seems a daft question, but had to remove apps to free space to fit the 20mb update. So if this is just a tiny update whats gonna happen when the big one comes along ?
