-remove app pausing (all apps run in the background)
-Apps are made fullscreen
-Or Apps can be stacked side by side (think landscape) = windowing
-UX is designed like a hybrid of the new MeeGo (tablet) UI + Playbook UI + iOS UI ...a true multitasking, fast-functional interface optimized for tablets
-The browser from Chrome OS (ie the full-blown one, not the watered down one)
-Supports the three user buttons (Back/Home/Menu) and their secondary (long press) functions=Close App/List of Running Apps/Search
-Uses three major platforms: C++, QML, Dalvik (Flash10.2 is supported but not a development platform)
... then apply this software to a Tegra2/drivers (since its the most abundant next-gen processor). Imagine if such a beauty got ported to the ASUS Transformer!!
I get the sense it already supposed 1280x800, I thought? I definitely can tell you it already supports mouse cursor. I use it sometimes on my Motorola Droid (CM7 already has HID profiles for mouse and keyboard support out-of-the-"box").

Apps already can individually choose to truly run multitask in the background or else choose to pause in background. I rather like the way Android handles this, actually. But yeah, I do sometimes wish I could have windowed apps that could be placed side-by-side on a tablet screen.

Here's the problem--Android isn't a proper computing platform. It lacks a LOT of the legacy and standards that a functional computer NEEDS to have. There's a severe lack of proper POSIX, despite being based on Linux (which strives for it... while Android tries to strip that away).

Geeks suffer, sure.. but end-users also have an awkward time of it when they need what they've traditionally expected from a laptop/workstation too (keys, mouse usage, peripherals (printers, FAX, even telephone modems for the non-wifi/non-eth stuck areas or for OOB access to routers for the network/sys admins among us).. and so on.

No, I WANT a standard Linux tablet/netbook thing. Particularly if it can just be a tablet with a fold-away keyboard (or better, optional altogether). So far, everyone--even Maemo, comes short.
Then this is where we agree to disagree.

Android is arguably not linux because of the lack of things that amount to be bytes on a filesystem.

I believe integration is possible including a POSIX file system, additional kernel modules, as well as the necessary shared libs that make TL tick. The best of both worlds with zero compromise.

Things like keysets can be remapped or software features re-integrated with shared libs. In the end, it's software, afterall.

I've seen a modified Android already doing this, and I *bet* that this is a 'new' feature that will make it into future versions of non-phone Android UIs.

I'm hoping that Google exposes an API that makes this all the more useful -- rather than the 'window' metaphor. I have a few ideas of how this can be done.

That's the problem--I've been desperately searching for ESC and CTRL support in Android so far with no success (outside of some goofy touchscreen implemented software keys--VERY inconvenient during typing,... certainly nothing that keymapping seems to fix since Android itself eliminated those keys altogether.. even though CTRL shows up on the Motorola and samsung keyboards but map to nothing and there's nothing to map to). I would rather go with your other idea of a true LINUX tablet than can emulate and run Android apps in a session/window.

Who knows, tomorrows big announcement may be the return of the CTRL key...

But I fee your pain. The two camps Android/Linux seems so polarized that I worry that the integration that I speak of will never come to pass.

To offer a token to your delight: Linaro seems to be making great strides at releasing a full linux 'platform' optimized for ARM, based on Ubuntu:

We may see a TL tablet before long. With a lower cost of entry, it will certainly be a more feasible proposition.

In the meantime, I'll keep dreaming about bridging Android and TL... Nom nom....

A little bit of Googly news from back home in Silicon Valley:
While Nokia is shriveling and making shady alliances...
Google to build its own office space

My favorite part of the article: "Real estate sources say Google is close to a deal to occupy a vacant two-building complex on Fairchild Drive just west of 101 formerly occupied by Nokia, as well as the nearby former Netscape headquarters off Ellis Street. Asked about its interest in those properties, Google declined to comment." Oh, Nokia! :P

I've seen the "EVO 4G transformation into desktop computer" which says in the updated version (froyo to ginger) that they needed to install an app/api for the cursor ... so I thought Google just axed the feature.

Why 1280 x 800? This is a resolution I came to conclusions several months ago when I posted my tablet concept.

800 x 480 is quite a high quality for screens that are <5inches. And on the handheld front it dominates.

So if I wanted to stack two Apps in full size (no scaling), which increases performance, then my miniumum resolution needs to be 960 x 800. So just bump it up to 1280 x 800, and now its HD-compatible (no need to convert all those videos). And it is close to the Greek's Golden Ratio (16:9), see the Parthenon's columns.

And if we want to go one better, then 1440x810 will allow x3 applications side-by-side and its still that golden 16:9 ratio. And geniusly, those extra 10 pixels could be for the notifications bar on the top that stays there permanently without obstructing the experience.

The Advent Vega and Notion Ink tablet now have an accelerated Honeycomb port!

VIDEO (Adam): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-LiAjGTPNw
VIDEO (Vega): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dO0LOuelTT8

While the UI works, almost everything else doesn't. Still if they can get this up and going to a satisfactory degree at ~$320 for the Vega is a hard price to pass up.
