It is actually quite cool. Your tracks exist in the cloud where you can stream them, or have them 'pinned' to your device for offline listening. Creating a playlist on one device will mean that all devices will have access to the same list.

The Android app even has the ability to 'output' music to different devices. In the keynote demonstration, a special box (that I assume will be for sale at some point) connected to speakers was able to be controlled via the Google Music tablet application. This is a very slick home-automation control that once had be monopolized by Sonos, or required a DIY setup.

At the present time, it's only available for US customers and by invite only @ http://music.google.com . I expect that it will be available outside of the US, but a timeline has not been mentioned.

Some of the arguments against this service is: no purchase option, privacy concerns, US customers only, not terribly innovative, etc. An interesting read!

With the carriers and even home ISP's insisting on bandwidth caps, I don't foresee streaming as something I can enjoy. I also believe that, in their arrogance and greed, the ISP's and carriers are also impeding the incredible progress and openness with which the Internet became so popular during the 90's. It seems like any progress during the late 2000's was DESPITE the carriers/ISP's, certainly not because of them. I don't really see Google Music streaming taking off while this is the case--but maybe it'll put more "anti-competitive" light on the issue and make people ask why COMCAST was allowed to buy NBC/Universal while it insists on capping bandwidth from Netflix... or why Verizon insists on capping its wireless bandwidth while giving you free pass for bandwidth if you purchase their music services. Fishy. Just saying--I feel as if there's a pronounced odor of rodent feces in the telecom industry.
