elopian == implementing hypocritical business practices.

"we will only announce phones when they are ready, and will ship soon there after"

"announce ms "merger" have no products to fill inevitable void, show drastic misunderstanding of technology and business cycles in the process"

Not so related, but I think too that "MeeGo Ready" would be a good solution.

When you put it like that... That's really the way to maximize the gap between when to make the market nervous and when to show the market success. AKA making sure nobody believe in Nokia for as long as possible.

I believe that was Chinook. Diablo definitely had it, but I think Chinook had it too. Bora was indeed a download. Still... my comment about that being a step or two backwards stands.

Not a good step, imho.

But, if it's going to continue to be easy, so be it.

a missing terminal app (+root) in a consumer device is normal, isnt it? and as long as i can download and root it as easy as with the n900 its ok, isnt it? i dont see the problem...

I mentioned earlier in the thread, there is a terminal application for Harmattan, it isn't installed by default but it is there. I know this because the same app is going to be open sourced and used in MeeGo DE.

Would love to see how Nokia will pull that off as hard as they tanked today.

Anybody who is discouraged by installing an application obviously has no business using a terminal. It won't ever be installed by default on a consumer oriented device, unless it is well hidden.

Regarding who would buy the phone if it's not MeeGo? Same as who would buy it if it was MeeGo: Those who want a great out of the box smartphone and are not too concerned with politics or platforms. MeeGo just isn't significant enough yet to make a difference one way or another.

Again, this is just downright odd that folks would be so accepting of the lack of terminal whereas that was one of the main rallying points for the N900.

"My phone has terminal and root access without the need to jailbreak my phone like the iPhone..."

That sentiment ran rampant around here; yet now it makes sense to not have it on a device? Which is it? I mean, I'm not hanging onto a moot point - I ain't worried if it has it or not, I'll get it because I believe in total ownership of my devices, root and all - but to hear a slight reversal and acceptance from formerly hardcore "my phone came with terminal installed" to "it'll be ok if it's not installed, that makes sense" is just odd. This is what I mean...

Oh well. Nothing's been announced, shown, it's all speculation. Let's see what happens.
