Ah it is bittersweet...
Me..
I got handed a clam and found a pearl inside.
I was given an android phone to putter with...
(shudder)
so I use it for telegram with my lovely chica from Veracruz.
it just so happens the android phone I was handed was a Alcatel OneTouch PIXI 3 (4.5)
it really is low end of the modern smart phone spectrum...
BUT..
one can install android
windows phone
or
firefox os
properly

just a crying shame firefox went bye-bye.

So I'd think it's just a matter of time.

In principle yes. [1][2] The details depend on how the drone is controlled.

The down payment is 330 or 400 Euros, depending on the edition (with or without modem). The final price will be 500-626 Euros (+VAT), also depending on the edition. [3]

This looks quite enticing! Should work on Tmobile and At&t LTE. Any idea when it will be available?

Probably. But there are no known tests yet.
There have been a couple of prototypes sent out to "special" users, but somehow all of them are incognito to the Pyra community.
There is however one very active, US-based community member called "Grench", who is still waiting for the last prototype (iff it's being shipped), and he anounced that he'd make sure to test the modem to the best of his capabilities.

The inside joke is "two months", which pretty much translates to Debian's "when it's done".
Some people in the community hope to get their Pyra as a Christmas present. My personal feeling is, that this is optimistic, but not unrealistic.

The Pyra community has been watching the flattening pre-order curve [1] in curious horror for some time now.
In case you need a boost of morale, pre-order a unit, and publicly anounce it in the forums! You'll be the hero of the day.

Maybe the GPD win would be a good choice for you..
maybe boot from sd or use a virtual machine

In order to get the GPD Win for $299, you'll need to pre-order it from the company's IndieGogo crowdfunding campaign, as GPD plans to sell the handheld for $499 if it hits retailers. GPD is offering 2,000 units at this low price, and as of today (Mar. 9) 689 of the notebooks have been claimed. The campaign met its $100,000 goal on March 2, and there are two months left to stack on more donations.
The GPD Win is armed with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage, and the manufacturer claims that the laptop's 6000 mAh battery should enable between 6 to 8 hours of online gaming. GPD gave the handheld micro USB, mini HDMI, and USB Type A ports, a headphone jack and a memory reader that supports the not-exactly-well-known TF cards. The notebook's 1280 x 720 touch-screen display is protected by 3rd generation Gorilla Glass, and it has a resolution of 267 ppi.

Given it's Intel Atom, installing Linux on it natively is surely possible, but levels of support vary.

Not just flattening, it occasionally has gone down in recent days.

It would, if only it were available to buy. Preorder? Thank, but no thanks.
The same goes for Pyra.

Well, if everyone has this attitude, none of us will get a Pyra, or neo900 or anything similar. We all come here to piss and moan about how there are no mobile devices designed for us nerds. I'm one of the worst of the whiners. Apple's never going to build anything we like. Samsung's never going to build something we like. Nokia did build something we liked, and died shortly thereafter. The only way we'll ever get our toys is if we preorder - you can't expect a handfull of guys to build thousands of these items with their own money, so that we can perhaps buy them later. It's time for us to put our money where our mouths are.

You are absolutely right and I am not proud of my attitude but I will stick to it anyway. If so many preorder campaigns did not end up in a fiasco*) then perhaps they would have a better name and more people willing to sign up.

You say no preorders means no devices. That may be so but look at it this way. Making something for money is business. The first thing in business is taking a risk. If the people running the business are not willing to take the risk and are all too keen to pass it on to the customer then that tells me loud and clear what kind of business people I have to deal with. And my instinct tells me to run away as fast as I can.

*) For example, 100% of the campaigns popularized on this very forum.

Accepted. And nothing to argue with.

But I do not see those campaign made by business men but by hobbyists. (okay there was a company claiming to produce a community-driven-tablet, but that is another story).
And so it is fair to shift/divide the risks.

Of course everybody is free to support or not...(and to be honest there are only few where I participated).
