I could be wrong, but judging from your posts, I think you would like to be taken seriously--by potential buyers and by those who disagree with you. If so, then please refrain from name-calling--e.g. "trolls", "hecklers", "tabletards"--and exaggerating--e.g. "totally useless." Unfortunately, it may be too late for this thread to be taken seriously by anyone.
I'm not sure I follow you on that. You're appropriating the behaviour of the other posters here to me. I haven't engaged any of them on their deliberately inane banter.

And you're trying to lecture me about who's going to be taken seriously?

That's rich.

Because you haven't had a leg to stand on.

I thought it was pointless, too. Some people are just overly helpful, even when undeserved.

I have a park near my house with open skies all around, no tall buildings. The GPS had a bloody fit as soon as I took a step.

It was defective out of the box.
Maybe the problem with the GPS has to do with your magnetic personality.

you talk like charles emerson winchester.

(OH NO HE DIDN"T!!! YES I DID!!! M*A*S*H REFERENCE IN THE HEEZY)

now THAT'S rich.

...fyi, people stopped taking you seriously about 20 pages ago.

EDIT: you do realize that this is no longer about the uselessness or defective-by-designedness of the N810... it's ALL about how ridiculous you sound. both sides of the argument are simply opinions. if you really cannot let it go, you should sue nokia for making a product that was detrimental to your life. otherwise, get a clue and stop talking.

Poop and modems, anyone?

Ugh.
If it's a cold start it'll take awhile to get signal lock. Try it an hour after you've last turned it off and it should lock a lot faster.

That is incorrect. No consumer GPS receiver should lose satellite lock by simply moving around, assuming there is a clear view of the sky.

I'll never stop about the GPS because that was such a stillborn joke.

None of this happened overnight to the N810, it SHIPPED with these problems when it was released!
If what you say is true, then you definitely had a defective unit. You should have sent it for repairs.

And it seems you agreed with me. I actually think it is shameful to sell a device that you knew was broken to someone else, unless you clearly stated to the buyer that the device appears to be not functioning correctly.

You choosing not to notice that proves nothing.

The N810's GPS is simply poorly conceived and defective *by design*. It was never meant to be used, only advertised on a box.

Which begs the question, why should I have to pay for something that won't ever work worth a damn?
How, exactly, do you know that your device is no different than others? Did you try other N810s?

I've heard people complain about long GPS fix acquire times. You're the first to complain about acquisition LOSS, OUTDOORS.

That Cocoatech dude is totally out to lunch. I can only assume he had a defective unit too. Saving a text document takes several seconds?!? What?!

And this proves my point:
Nokia N810 reminds me of my old Newton - another terrible device. Lots of promise, cool animations, but just too slow and cumbersome to be useful.
