I'd advise against installing it yet. I doubt it'll take long for the initial bugs to be worked out and the install process to be documented/streamlined though.

Show up automatically how? You need to add the new repository, manually install the enabler application, then run it. There's nothing automatic about the process, and no way to "accidentally" do it.

It should ask you to back everything up, then upgrade the OS and then you should be left with your phone "Exactly" as it was just with the updated OS.
You should not have to do anything else at all.
That's all the process is - there's no "compatibility test". There are currently issues if people are running non-standard OS components (modified hildon-desktop, etc) and some people are running into the usual disk space/conflict issues that happen with every firmware update, but that's it.

2. power consumption... i don't find it any lower with my current settings... I have facebook widget, calendar, conversations, dataplan monitor, systemui monitor... i think these are the only ones that use up cpu every now and then... i've been using it EXTRA these few days thanks to this new update and trying things out.... it lasts me for a full day... i have to recharge probably just after 24 hours.. I can't say that it has dropped BECAUSE of the CSSU but i can definitely say that there is NO Improvement in battery life.
I also get all kind of strange problems like webpages half loaded and scripts that are not working. Also the minimize button on the bottom right didnt show up a couple of times while it should.

Mobile maps allready froze one time completely with no reason while loading, making the whole system crash.

I also mentioned some strange icon process wich was using 50% of CPU for a couple of minutes. this could indicate the power cunsumption mentions by a forum member earlier.

I would advise the people who make these updates to atleast fix something instead of break everything that can be broken.

It is not wise to install this at all.

@rob1n i dont have any modified hildon garbage on my n900

Why did you install CSSU in the first place? On Wiki page, there is a clear statement that this is for those who are willing to help CSSU and there is a risk that not all parts are working, some features might be broken due to updates.

At least I see this an opportunity to help the community to bring improvements to N900. Even I do not fix or do coding, I try to do as much error hunting as possible. For sure I'll learn more.

Stop complaining!

@Gusse

Yup.. I agree... I'm no coder/developer or anything but I think those people appreciate that an end-user type of person tests and voices out things that might be of concern especially of everyday usage. Different people will use it differently and that is where more bugs or fixes can be reported to people who CAN fix it in the next update.

How can i check whether CSSU been installed? I have been reading this thread after installing the CSSU and I'm not having anykind of problems with my n900.

The easiest way I can see is to check whether the mp-fremantle-community-pr package has been installed:
Code:
dpkg -l mp-fremantle-community-pr
If that shows as installed ("ii" at the beginning of the line) and you don't have the "Community SSU" app showing up in the app launcher, then it should be all installed.

I'm also not seeing many issues (I ran the gconf fix for the shortcut keys, and Modest doesn't handle attachments properly, but that's it) so I wouldn't get troubled about that!

Not even the shortcut or bookmark problems I thought most users had suffered?

Odd I have sent and received messages with zero issues, including images and unknown attachments. Microb has some weird behavior, fortunately it's UI only, so that's cool.

E.g., sometimes the bottom bar is lacking the add bookmark and back button, allowing for a large address field. Frankly, I wish it were permanent. Bookmarking works via menu and I already have 2 ways to go back. Doesn't last though.
