This is interesting, can you tell us more? Summarize the technology behind the "trick"?

Changed the name to? And failed why? Slow, non-functional?

I wish I could remember the new name for the technology.

I guess that I wasn't impressed because the demo hardware was big, bulky, and expensive and I wondered why you'd buy a big box to stream output from another device when you can buy a micro ATX, atom-based PC that's about the same size for nearly the same price. I had a hard time envisioning use cases for the system.

Ugh. I was thinking they were working on implementing what I recalled (which may have been erroneous) the original noBounds embodied, i.e. all the connections, to external displays, external keyboard, etc, were done via WiFi and/or Bluetooth. What happened to that?

Oh, noBounds was always wireless, but it has also always required a fairly hefty decoding/processing unit on the receiving side. The initial demo video simply glossed over that fact.

I believe qole is simply questioning at what receiver size and price point does trying to offload processing from an underpowered handheld device using clever tricks stop making sense. There's some line that once crossed, makes it more logical to just buy an inexpensive, ultra small PC and run a VNC client on the handheld.

Ah, the receiver...Clear. Riddle me this...where does DLNA fall in the context of this discussion. If I had (which I don't, but I can dream) one of the fancy new Samsung ridiculously thin televisions which support DLNA over wi-fi out of the box, would that meet the decoding/processing requirements? Can the n900 act as a DLNA server, or only as a client?

The media player in Maemo 5 is a DLNA client. There have been DLNA/UPnP servers ported to previous Maemo releases, and given the increased developer and user interest in Maemo 5, there will almost certainly be a server or two available at some point.

(Back to topic...)

It seems that the TI guy is MiA, or at least, doesn't answer to emails.

So now you know that trying to make 3D drivers for the N810 CAN and WILL kill you! Kids, don't try this at home!
