Dont get me wrong, I also like (if not love) Maemo ways more than my old HTC or Android or even older Symbians. Would however recommend you to wait and see a while before buying N900 until Nokia decides whther its deprecated ....

One could make a similar one with Maemo 5 owners......

Give Hitler a N900 ... he deserves navigation ;-)

I emailed nokia customer care directly to see what they had to say this and here is their reply:

Thank you for e-mailing the Nokia Care Contact Center. We are glad that you are interested in the Nokia N900

Based on your concern, no it will only be developed for future maemo devices, not the n900, because the ovi maps that is preinstalled on the N900 is ovi maps version 1.0 and it cannot be updated to the ovi maps 3.03, which has free ovi maps turn by turn navigation.

I hope the information provided proves useful.

Thank you very much for your email. Have a great day.

I love it.
I don't really believe tech support people, they're often not provided with up-to-date information, before it hits the web (for some strange reason)

But we have the Nokia VP, the Maemo team, and Nokia officials all saying different things.
A 30 page thread on Nokias official Maemo forum, discussing back'n'forth, a forum that the Maemo MARKETING guy reads and posts to, and several other Maemo people.

But still none of the free beta users of Nokias new major device, and frontrunner for their next big mobile OS, the N900, are given ANY clue as to whether they'll get the new Ovi maps, that Nokia will be providing for almost all but their most basic phones.

It makes Nokia seem SO professional and in complete control of their forward plans, and marketing! /s

Yes, the information was very useful to make a lot of N900 owners to not buy any Nokia product again!!! Even if this "Email Specialist" doesn't have sure about that, it would be at least a lack of alignment inside the company...

Maybe they realize that their answer is "no we will never give you a decent OVI maps version on Maemo 5", and they know that if they tell us that it will FOR SURE make them look bad. They'd rather have us stew and wonder.
