I think most of you misunderstood my post, this is really exciting stuff. This has NOTHING to do with a GUI. eSpeak doesn't have a GUI but that is an application.

I would compare this to a JailBroken iPhone; not everyone can do it (especially without issues), works best overclocked, etc.

Once it is in repos then it is an application and it is ready for more inexperienced users to test it out and find ways to make it a better APPLICATION - something that EVERYONE can use (even noobs that can't read this thread). There is no need to act defensively or rude to anyone here.

I am very excited about this project, I look forward to the development of this project, and I hope it reaches repos and sooner or later goes into extras as stable and user friendly as the SNES emu.

FYI: I have never installed this on my phone, even though the anticipation is killing me, I am going to wait until most of the major bugs are worked out and it is in repos-dev/testing to try it out.

But you guys sure do have a great jump to conclusions map.

i think if you haven't install it you shouldn't judge it, some games work perfectly even in the 1st version w/o overclocking, mario 64, banjo kazooie and mario kart work perfect for me and im at 600mhz, this IS an app, just a command-line one. izzeho it's right, putting such and early release out there would just fill this thread with 'i have a problem-kinda posts' instead of helpfull things that make this better.... either find something to help move things faster or just sit and wait. period.

I had mentioned about this in another thread that I posted to see if someone can write a generic GUI frontend that can service many applications including Mupen64 and the CPS2Emu for example. Its basically running a command with a ROM file and parameters, and it will just parse it through to run in the shell.

This will solve many of the noobs issues frankly and will be quite good common thing across the board.

BTW.. really appreciate what Izzeho has done already. The first page is pretty clear and most people if they follow it to the step, will get it working without any issues. I really firmly believe that at this stage, if these noobs want it so badly, then just learn how to do it through command line. Its human nature that if there is a need, then they will adapt to obtain it.

I completely agree with you and izzeho. It should not be released into repos until it is user friendly enough and stable. The keyword in your first sentence is "some" of course it is an application, it is complied code by definition. I am referring to the term Application as in the "noob" sense, if you get what I mean by that.

You spelt it wrong <.< At least try and re-read the line before posting or you aren't going to get far :P

(hint: its a library for SDL ... no DSL)

I think you are missing what a GUI actually does. Without a GUI this is a COMMAND LINE application... and as such, releasing it to repo's is redundant as the people who don't have it, don't have it because they are afraid of the command line.

That aside, I think you should seriously give the current version a go... several games are fully playable.. and chances are its not going to get much better than it is now: There is only so much you can do to optimize and its pretty much beyond the beta stages in those terms.

And my apologies for coming off rude, my main intention was to come off forceful enough that it would stop coming up so we could stay on topic.

Update! It's 3 lines in xterm and the new version is more stable, faster and has far more compatability with games (not to mention being able to save). Accelerometer support is loads of fun too, especially if you don't have a PS3 controller. I just spent the last 3 days in a hotel room trying to beat Super Mario 64 and 1080 Snowboarding (almost got the silver surfer or w/e he's called)

EDIT: I really need to stop unintentionally double posting...

For the constantly repeating questions I think you should make a small FAQ to first post. Then all new people trying this would immediately see answer questions like "When will this be in repos?" and "Why doesn't this have a GUI?".

I haven't... I'll try it out now... Hexen 2, Quake 64 and both Duke Nukem games run perfectly from memory though.
