could be the pr1.1 with native Chinese support. i mean we only know it supports Chinese writting input and chinese menu. no evidents have shown that it can do any thing in the new feature list of 1.2

A reason for not releasing the pr 1.2 worldwide just yet might be that it's saturday today.

An update will generate more calls to support than a presinstalled pr 1.2 and support is cheaper to staff other days than saturday and sunday, so don't be so frustrated just yet.

The cries for "Why HK but not the rest of us?" should wait until monday at least, I think.

This will change everything for our beloved N900. It will give us Shazam, it might give ppl things like separate Skype app (I love the integrated one), it will multiply the available apps for Maemo 5.
I'm sorry but what COULD change the device is actual support from developers. What I've seen so far is the usual Nokia lapdogs(Offscreen) + maybe Shazam. Bringing QT doesn't magically bring tons of great apps, there has to actually be some interest for the platforms from developers, and I really haven't seen anything so far to think something would actually change.

Second, there is a huge difference between preloading a firmware in the factory and making it available for seamless OTA update. (Update being the crucial one - like not destroying your existing data and apps, right?).
And yet they update only with these PR-updates instead of releasing the critical bugfixes(that have been ready for months) to the repositories. Could be a great thing, but isn't.

Also, people here seem to really thing PR1.2 is going to be something great which will change our N900. It really isn't. It's bugfixes and Qt(which MAY give us applications in several months time). That's it. No maps, no portrait etc. Nokia's focus has been elsewhere since the N900 was launched. It's been almost 6 months and we really haven't gotten anything new. Also the testing of PR1.2 seems to take months? If that's proper focus on N900 by Nokia, I really don't know if I should laugh or cry.

+ It's labour day / Mayday today. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walpurgis_Night

Only thing I would expect from Finland 30th April / 1st of May is helluva lot of Vodka and drunken people.

Maybe the hungover Nokia engineers will turn on the update switch on Monday.

So if say a Chinese guy who has just bought his brand new N900 visits this site or indeed any other site with new software. He installs the software and it crashes the phone. How will he then reflash it seen as even with his IMEI no PR1.2 is not available for him to reflash???
Big paperweight till it is released seen as Chinese is not recognised in any official release before this!!

As we are on the HK900 thread i can shed a few tips for anyone interested, China mobiles as they are called are usually hacked to hell and non compatible with the official Nokia update in any way and they usually come with heaps of apps on them so my guess is once they do get there hands on the N900 officially for sure it will follow the same trend and be non updatable from Nokia direct as they will have as usual their own update sites which are always in Chinese.
They always copy everything and one of the good sides is heaps of cheap spares can be got from them and as the years have gone by i must admit the quality has definitly improved a lot.
I was thinking ... ok get a China product code but they wont be available on the net yet for obvious reasons and then try do an update from Nokia but nothing on Nokia site yet even if you did get the product code for a N900.
I also think Nokia will sell only a limited amount to China as they will start to produce thir own copies and not get from Nokia.
Just a bit of info if anyone is interested.

Got a N900 that I need to return to Nokia. Would have loved to flash it with PR1.2 First :-(
