For covers you have to use a 3rd party python script located at http://staff.get-e.org/?p=users/chen....git;a=summary just download .py files to your device and run like "python SCRIPT.py", one is to download covers from amazon or last.fm and the other is to thumbnail your videos using MPlayer. I already said this before in this huge thread, but the summary is that we're unable to officially get covers from sites and we didn't have any support to use "cover.jpg" (or similar) from folders, so you have to wait for a more final solution :-/

As for view pictures while listening to music, it's possible! Just click "back" from music player and it should keep playing in the background, you can also click 'n' hold "back" to "go home", this have the nice effect to bring you directly to "now playing" screen when you enter local music again! Ah, and notice that you will have a nice "Play" icon on the top-right, you can tap there from any screen to go straight to "now playing" screen.

Now to the bad news: equalizer and volume normalizer is more difficult to have, since we use external tools to play your media, we'll try, but it might take more releases to get done.

We could ask the jablet folks to delegate the subdomain to us, but maybe we can do something ourselves without relying on *another* party to provide resources as a favor. I have no problem registering a domain, it's less than $10/yr, and we just use that.

Actually, I just registered tabletrepo.com. We can start using that. If anyone has spare bandwidth, diskspace, and desire to help out, email me at tps at buoy dot com with the subject 'REPO'. Wolf, if you can tar up the whole dir, I'll grab it from you for distribution. Also, when you email me, let me know what continent you are on. We'll set up wide area repos so we're not crossing the oceans when there's something closer to home...

Tim
We've get ~3 terabytes of bandwidth a month and only use a few gigs. My husband is going to build me a repository mirror anyways so we'd be more than happy to share. I'm in the US (Seattle). I'll email you.

@Reggie: Thanks for the tips - I tried that (3x actually) but still won't show ANY of the images I've got on any drive (internal or external). I think it's weird that it does appropriately list the folders that the images are stored in but no images.

Any more ideas? I installed Canola2 from the tarball that Tim and Wolf put together - is it possible that some file got missed? Anybody know which package makes the thumbnails for the photo viewer?

A few posts up from here is a post explaining the current lack of 770 support. I've been trudging along with the mixing of Gregale packages with Bora packages, but there's one package missing ATM that makes it impossible to proceed (python2.5-edbus). And that one has to be a Gregale package (or recompiled by someone who isn't me).

It should work, now ideas why it's not. Could you please upload or send me the pictures you're trying to view? Maybe it's a bug with my code in lightmediascanner, then I can fix it. My mail user is barbieri, server is google's gmail, you know :-)

So how does this mediascanner thing work?

When 'watching' a folder how often does it scan/rescan? Is it configurable?

If I can somehow create a smbfs mount on my media card, will canola2 see it? And is there a way to tell it to cache the contents, but dont keep rescanning?

Also, what components have source code avail at this point and where can I find it?

Thanks

Indeed it is, for me! Thank you Wolf! I haven't even played with the app yet because I want to thank you first. It worked first time and installed in about one minute. I spent all day yesterday getting a 'download failed' message, so the speed with which the app installed was a pure delight.

I have no idea how you were able to do this and the canola/maemo folks weren't. Though it's irrelevant to me now, perhaps they could benefit from your expertise!

Interestingly, my copy of the latest firmware update came from a user hosted site, so once again, members of the community have done something about it!

Thanks for the reply Barbieri, I've just sent some of the images to your gmail.

Anyone else having problems downloading pod casts?

Whenever I click on a podcast to download it, I typically get the following error message: "Error during downloading". I have to try about 3 to 5 times, or more, before the download actually works. This is in on all podcasts and either happens immediately, or at any point during the download. Again, eventually I can get it to download, but it takes multiple tries.

Also, anyone know how to change the default directory for podcasts? (warning I am a total Linux noob)

Thank you for any help you guys can provide!

Ok, here it goes:

Download these two files to your device, add them to /home/user/:

Code:
 http://staff.get-e.org/?p=users/chenca/canola-tuning.git;a=blob_plain;f=albumcover.py;hb=HEAD
http://staff.get-e.org/?p=users/chenca/canola-tuning.git;a=blob_plain;f=videothumb.py;hb=HEAD
then login to your device and as REGULAR USER (su - user) do:

Code:
python albumcover.py --help # info on how to get album covers
python videothumb.py --help # info on how to thumb your videos using MPlayer
Note that since these scripts have no #!/usr/bin/python line at the beginning they have to be called using "python" explicitly.
