What features are missing that you need from the interface? I thought about providing coverart as base64-encoded PNG string, e.g.

Coverart can just be provided as a filename, e.g. it can be loaded from thumbnails dir and cached in widget. But it's not that important at the moment

Coverart doesn't always exist as file. Sometimes it's embedded in the file or stream.

im using media connect on my win xp
and it worked like charm (exept streaming xvid/divx avi container videos, its a maemo bug)
Allowed the Device in media connect and give them the folder
hes allowed to connect and it worked.

But keep in mind that widget is using MediaBox icons.
