Attribute that to my meager third-language English skills (as in several hundred in my head meant simply more than two hundred). You learn something every day.

I've voted on some things, but this system is not as user friendly as it could be.
Now those things we can work on. I cannot relay "it's crap" to Nokia or people working on it. I can relay exact problem spots and bottlenecks (stuff like what smoku said).

EDIT:
@Smoku: Though I'm not sure I follow the app name issue. HAM shows you the 'maemo name', just as the QA queue.

Pointing this because if anyone is "doing his research" right now, he could be blamed here in a few months when asking for Nokia support...
I asked that question about resetting the step x of y, no clear answer as noone seems to know or understand.

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=52810

But the next device will not be a 5/5 into consumer friendly world but a dead end in a development context. Then it seems they are going to reset the count at 1 with the first "real" Meego device after that.

I think that "real" consumer Meego device should be nicknamed Godot, somehow that name seems very fitting to me.

How often do you read talk.maemo.org then?
I have no idea why this is relevant.

This was covered lots of times. And you know it. And, sorry, the system don't work, so it's a crap.
No, I didn't know much of what smoku said. I haven't spent much time at all reading test related posts or looking at brainstorms.

And if the system is broken, being as constructive as possible to find a solution is often better than saying that "it's crap". This is what I'm trying to do. But apparently this was the wrong thing to do...

So, I'm not trying to defend the promotion system.

Don't be a covard... trying to attack me because you are afraid of Smoku boy.
This I do not understand at all. I'm guessing this is some kind of language barrier at work making things hard to understand.

I'm not attacking you. At all. I'm asking questions to understand and letting you explain what you think about the promotion system. That's not an attack.

And, please, I'm not afraid of smoku, or you. I have no feelings at all about anyone of you. You're just people on the forum, like me, and I'm neutral in my views.

The Diablo app comment is slightly misleading as it has little to with this case. Diablo Extras had no testing - the rating was purely for the maemo.org front-end (the stars you see on the maemo.org/downloads pages). So that's a purely informative like-not-like 1-5 rating, while extras-testing thumbs is 'yes-no' works-doesn't-work (it's not about how pretty or cool it is !) and influences promotion.

The impending (Symbian 3) N8 will require apps built with Qt. I thought the point of Qt on N900 was to allow Qt apps from Symbian 3 and 4 to be easily ported over to Maemo (?)

That's only going to happen if there's an incentive for developers and the process is is easy & straightforward, surely?

Can some of our developers comment on this?

So, would an application that runs on the N900 with package selection and one click access to the voting page or one click voting be possible without involving the content management people?

If such an application would solve a lot of the problems with promotion of packages to Extras, I see no reason to not start working on it.

Symbian^3 does not require apps built with Qt. It simply runs them, along with 'regular' Symbian apps. The lure of Qt on Symbian is that it is a lot easier to develop in Qt than plain Symbian/S6/AVKON, and you get portability to Maemo/MeeGo/WinMo 'for free'.

But, for all those who already have software out for Symbian there's not much of a necessity to go re-make their software, as the only additional front to gain would be the Meego/Maemo devices, all 1-2 of them.

Why should for example the Polish Psiloc company rewrite their Symbian apps in Qt?

Thanks atilla77 & olighak.

what the is the reason for Qt in Maemo 5? Is it to help/ encourage developers build new apps for Meego?

If that's the case, would this not require hardware compatability (similarity) between N900 and the first Meego device?
