I think Maemo5 is great as long the bugs are fixed and get all the software upgrade then I won't have any problem with the OS at all. I have grown to like the OS and I don't mind it if it doesn't get MeeGo or Maemo6. It is how you like the device not always the new flash OS.

As long they are keeping pumping the apps and free apps to N900 then i have no issues , Some of the community apps are extremely useful in my everyday usage. The community of Maemo.org are very helpful in producing more good apps and I'm just waiting for the day PS1 emulator is out for me to play with.

MeeGo may be great but it still got a long way to be a stable OS, basically just like the version 1.0 of Android back in the day.

Anyway, Thank for backing me up guys , welcome home

So many pages and so little information in this thread. I think the fact Nokia keeps silence about discussed topic speaks for itself. We have great hardware with experimental softwares so we can utilize maybe 70% of the capacity, Nokia has our 600€ and the deal seems to be done.

Your device still works, and it's probably being ignored because it has zero impact on the functionality of the device.

Second, I recall somewhere (unofficially) that it was fixed. Wouldn't be the first time that something was going to be "Fixed in Harmattan" or WONTFIX for Maemo5 that actually did get fixed.

That said, their response to the issue is somewhat off-putting. I suppose a more "diplomatic" phrasing would have been better.
Well it doesnt impact the device`s performance but its extremely annoying ,and obviosly it hasnt been fixed..I love my phone and all,but they need to get their hand dirty and put up some work, and im not planning on replacing this phone in a while so some bug fixing wouldnt hurt.I dont even care about MeeGO,i want updates, fixes and software.

Relax already....we don`t need the upgrade to Meego.Maemo is allright the way it is....it just needs a proper navigation app, and maybe an upgrade to flash 10.1 and some bug fixes and it will be a kick *** internet tablet/phone!...more apps are coming day in day out so no complains on that department.

The answer to the opener of this thread is Yes, MeeGo will take the N900 as first ARM reference hardware. So yes, there will be MeeGo support for the N900 since day 1.

Now, is it a good idea to close this thread so high in FUD and even personal attacks, and start fresh with a smile at http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=554963 ?

Nokia has decided that there no ressources will be put into fixing this for
Maemo5, hence closing as WONTFIX.

How is this a good thing?I`ve payed 600 euros for a device with a broken screen.
Cryox,
I know you are no noob, iv'e seen you post around, would you go to bed with me?
Anyway, to the point - Are you using PR1.1.1?
Cause I never had that problem you are talking about, and I actually switch desktops very often, also I played with lots of wallpapers etc.

Edit : Who cares??? We are getting MeeGo!!!!!! Weeeeee

New user here.
Denver, CO. I got my N900 two weeks ago.

I did substantial research before purchasing, but failed to look at forums, so I was unaware of some of the issues with the N900, like no MMS and poor portrait support.

Once I got it, I was somewhat conflicted about keeping it. A Nexus One was only $50 more, and was in my mind the newer/fancier/nicer gadget. But, I kept reading the forums, kept customizing my phone, and kept thinking about it.

Then, I decided to browse a few Nexus One forums. I knew they had to be out there.

And what do you know?
They have their own issues too.

Spotty 3G, update problems and interface complaints, to name a few.
One thread, titled "Anyone have a problem-free N1?" mirrored the sentiments of a frustrated user here.

I haven't had any real issues so far. I miss MMS, and I had an interesting portrait glitch a while ago. So, I'm going to enjoy having the underdog OS, and go back to lurking.

I'd like to see you send that MMS while driving or in a hurry (:
You have to manually create the MMS access point,
Manually connect to it before sending, and to receive, you have to guess you are going to receive and mms, and connect to the MMS access point... What a pain (:

Better then nothing, but not something i'd use, and I also miss MMS a lot, my GF's phone is not a smartphone, if I want to send her an image, my options are MMS or Video call, meaning fMMS, which is not fun.
