as for what is safe that is a matter of opinion, i think for me it is perfectly safe at these levels but there are others who think that all us OC'ers are fools.
At the end of the day its down to personal preferance.
well in posts and internet websites, i read that the ARM processor can scale up to 1ghz.

nokia locking the default to 600mhz is maybe because:

-the CPU may not be damaged @1ghz and up but in battery operated devices, its different. you might blow your battery up before you melt your CPU

-the CPU may not be damaged but the mother board might (overheat and overvoltage may be the reason)

IMHO!!!

Limitation is coming from processor vendor (TI). There are lots of different IC vendors that are using various versions of ARM cores, one of them is TI with OMAP family.
Texas_Instruments_OMAP
N900 is using OMAP 3430.

I'm not too sure what the combination was but I bricked my N900 today after I tried to uninstall the latest kernel-power. I wanted to install the "Bugfix for Touchscreen calibration" and so clicked on uninstall kernel-power from my menu.

It gave me the warning, which I clicked OK and then after a couple of seconds it gave a confirmation that the kernel-power had been uninstalled. I then checked in Conky and saw that I was still running at 900Mhz. I then went to re-boot the phone, but it wouldn't turn back on again.
Grr... Why did I try this at work?! Bricked using the uninstall app in the menu. Have to wait till I get home to reflash!

the "deinstall" menu item is very experimental.
It doesn't work with LR1.2 (which I'm running).

it basically does the same as
http://wiki.maemo.org/Kernel_Power#Deinstallation

I'd appreciate if you could test the following commands manually (not the menu item) and send me the output.

Code:
sudo gainroot
apt-get install --reinstall -y kernel kernel-flasher
apt-get remove -y kernel-power kernel-power-modules
after that you can install kernel-power-flasher or settings via HAM again.

@ titan:

i just want to ask about the enhanced linux kernel (maemo27)

after installing, my kernel-flasher-maemo (maemo25) drop to maemo23 version....is this normal? i have kernel-power-settings 0.8 also installed.

everything is working great, a noob is just wondering

kernel-flasher-maemo was the old name (changed more than one month ago).
it is now only an empty transition package that you can safely deinstall.

so the kernel-flasher-maemo is now the "enhanced linux kernel for power users"

thanks....

currently using your ulv and latest settings, though i resist on editing some settings. i just install, update and go.

Hi Titan,

I'm going to reflash the kernal when I get home via LXDE as it won't even boot a Nokia screen at the moment.

So long as that works okay, I'll run the above and send you the output as requested. Do you want it posted here, PM or bug report?

Thanks for all your help in this thread!

I want to remove my overclock, since it is completely unstable after upgrading to the pr1.2 leak. However, when I run the command "apt-get install --reinstall kernel kernel-flasher" I get the error:

"Reinstallation of kernel is not possible, it cannot be downloaded"
"Reinstallation of kernel-flasher is not possible, it cannot be downloaded"

Any ideas?
