I confess that I have had no Modest crashes since upgrading to Diablo. It seems to be working fine for me. But as I read the thread about Diablo's release, I saw people mentioning the "Internal Error" messages that we were getting in the pre-Diablo beta.
Funny, I never noticed Rtcomm crashing with error messages like Modest, but I haven't tried changing contact info or anything, I just chat with people.

Modest worked well for me on Gmail IMAP as well, in beta/chinook and on Diablo. It's the POP access that is broken/non-functional.

The benefit of POP is that you can read/answer your e-mails while you are offline.
I can see all the headers, but when I try to open a message to read it I get a blank screen. This occurs whether or not the message has been previously read.
I remember that the built-in e-mail client didn't have a wizard, so maybe if you upgraded to Diablo restoring your e-mail settings (from the chinook built-in client) that is where your problem started.
