A simple trick to get Navit to center on your maps... Assuming you have your map files correctly specified in Navit.xml...

Using the internal Gui, click anywhere on your blank screen. Go to Actions and then Town. Type in the name of a town that should appear within your map data. Click on the town name once it fully appears in the list. This will bring up a menu of things you can do with that location. Click "View on Map".

You should be good to go...

i can't figure out how to configure the map file for navit.xml. how do i set it up and how can i set up the internal gui. the wiki site is not helping me. can you tell me what i need to do step by step after i install navit.

I have added an example navit.xml and navitOSD.xml file to the wiki. Refer to the instructions on the link below. That should get you started.

when i click on the link for navit.xml and osd.xml, it shows file parsing error
how can i fix that?

here's exactly what it shows:

Just right click and select "save as". You don't want to view the file, you just want to save it. I will add a note in the wiki to reflect as such.

where do i save it and how do i make it view maps on navit?

i'm sorry i'm asking you so many questions but i just don't get it.
