I was also bitten by this. It'd be nice if Webcat asked if you'd like to make it default browser or not. Or at least have some configuration option in UI to restore default browser.
It should not set the browser as default never. There is nothing that could actually do it.
It is not allowed to add an UI element for restoring default browser behavior in harbour.

Update: 3.0.6 is out now.

This is another bugfix release fixing the annoying https bug that would sometimes replace https:// with http://https/.
Error Popups are hidden now whenever you reload the page or start loading something else.
The User Agent was tweaked slightly so Youtube does not show the crappy wap like text only site by default.
A nice quick image viewer was added to the internal filemanager.
Some fixes for the internal filemanager also landed.
For sites like slashdot or others that annoy you with a privacy popup that is only visible and clickable with desktop mode a quick workaround has been added if you press and hold the reader mode icon for some seconds it will load the site in DPR 1.0 (a.k.a. desktop mode) and you should be able to click away the popup. Reloading loads the mobile site then again.

Changes:
  • Fix OpenDialog: Wrong path when switching between folders + hidden files show states
  • Redirect urls that start with / to file://
  • Fix https entry redirect to http:// error on some longer urls (Closes: #74)
  • Hide error popup on LoadStart (Fixes: #75)
  • Update User Agent String for youtube to load correct site
  • Enable Desktop Scaling as temporary workaround for websites who do not work properly without dpr=1.0 (Press and hold reader mode for 3 seconds)
  • Add working internal FM only image viewer based upon the Silica ImageViewer from Gallery
  • Add greek translation + update translations

You can get the newest version on openrepos.net

Update: 3.0.7 is out now.

This version focusses on bugfixes again.
Mainly Youtube video streams are fetched correctly again. Google disabled the http API calls for this so Webcat siwtched to using https.
The Youtube Quality Chooser contextmenu now opens up correctly again.
Finally Youtube-DL support has been added to Webcat.
It autodownloads youtube-dl or copies it from LLs video player if installed and places it in ~/.share/harbour-webcat folder.
It autoupdates itself whenever you visit a youtube video if the youtube-dl binary is older than 10 days.
360p Streams are the only streams ytdl will try to grab and replaces the 360p stream previously grabbed by the faster yt.js API call.
Vevo and other encrypted videos should be recognized but be aware that ytdl takes a bit longer to grab the video stream so be patient.
If a video is not working wait for a few seconds and try again using the 360p option (long press play button in mediabar to choose quality)

Changes in an Overview:
  • Switch Youtube getting streams to using https (Fixes Youtube video playback)
  • Fixed ytQualityChooser not appearing
  • Add ytdl support (Download or copy from LLs video player)
  • YTDL Support: 360p videos are loaded by default (if a Video is not playing back try the 360p option by long pressing the play button in mediabar)
  • YTDL Support: Update ytdl if binary older than 10 days automatically
  • Adjust video player component size for new yt mobile site
  • Fixed race condition in suggestionView hide on Enter key press

As always you can get the new version from openrepos.net

P.S.: A new QtWebkit 5.212 version with some speed fixes and a fix for non click responsiveness on Xperia devices is expected to land in openrepos.net aswell (html5 media enabled version).
Though I suggest you use the nonhtml5 capable version that you can get from here: https://build.merproject.org/package...k/qtwebkit5212

I recommend the non html5 version as gstreamer and qtmultimedia with qtwebkit seems to not work as expected most of the times.

In a private window, url bar search uses allways bloody goo***, though duckduckgo is set to a search engine. Is this a bug or a weird sense of humor of privacy? Anyway, big thanks for a great browser

Private mode creates a new temporary configuration which means it defaults to google as search engine.

Update: Webcat 3.0.8 is out now

This version concentrates on some bugfixes.
Mainly Youtube acquiring streams is working again and the Video Player got a new feature of multiple presses on the forward or rewind button jumps the timeline quicker than before.

Changelog
  • Fix webTitle visible after loading and urlText in focus
  • Ytdl: Fix for multiple tabs trying to get youtube stream urls
  • Fix youtube stream acquiring
  • Multiple presses on the ffwd and rew button in Videoplayer triggers further jump in the video (if done in 1.5 second interval) and shows indicators

As always you can find the rpms on openrepos.net or wait a bit for them to appear on Jolla Store.

Thanks for developing this, I got to know about it from your youtube channel!
Is it possible to use USB 2fa (u2f) in webcat?
