I don't know if this is related to the SSU v4.2008.36-5 but the story is as follows:

After the update and lock-up on infinite reboots (because, I suspect, I had installed the screen rotation feature); I updated it again to the original Diablo firmware.

I made the regular updates, including the first Diablo SSU and then the current (second) SSU. Everything seemed to be working fine, I even installed maemo mapper, gnumeric and some other regular stuff from the regular repos.

Today, having little battery left "less than an hour" and the N810 working perfectly on a WiFi network, I soft powered off the device and as soon as I got home I turned on the N810 and then turned it OFF to be plugged in to recharge the battery: as every other day. (I like to see the "chargning" and "battery full" labels on screen, thats is why I turned it off)

When I plugged in the battery charger, the white NOKIA logo screen came up and the device didn't boot. I couldn't even turn it off. I had to take the battery out. I put the battery in again and the same thing happened: NOKIA logo screen and locked device; no boot and not being able to turn it off.

FInally, after several attempts doing this, I plugged the USB cable (which was recognized, by the usb link symbol on the top right corner on the NOKIA logo screen) and finally was able to reflash the original Diablo firmware (again, for third time).

This has never happened before on my N810.

Questions are:

1) Any of you has experienced this lockup of your N810 with the same or similar conditions as described ?
2) Could it be related to the latest SSU ...?

Your comments are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Kind regards.

Can someone please upload their unmodified /etc/mce/mce.ini from this latest diablo update ? (this means you've never installed sliderotate )

I just did the latest update and now there are two objects on my screen one is a large square that has the following in it (no contacts) not sure what it is supposed to be but I have contacts on the machine and they do not show up there. The other is a changing window of adverts, I have tried to figure out how to get rid of them, but seems a horrible way to inflict stuff on users. The one window appears to be attempting to offer downloads from the Maemo site. Anyone else seen this over the past few days with the latest update??

Well, I actually don't recall seeing it (surprisingly), but maybe I just put my selections back in without even thinking. At the home screen, choose the drop-down menu, pick Select applets..., and deselect any you don't like.

It could be done more or less easily using aufs/unionfs.

Would an admin please link maacruz's posting to the Troubleshooting message board and make it sticky... I wish I had found it last night before having spent 4 hours stabbing in the dark at software that seems to have been designed at Micro$oft (i.e.: "Update has failed", period: no log files, no technical details, no *&^$#%*& recovery option whatsoever).

I was lucky enough that my .36-5 update chocked while attempting to chmod the .documents directory tree (which used to reside on my mmc2 device) while still leaving the entire system in a stable state.

But after having (re)discovered teh trick with creating bogus *.pdf files under /usr/share/pre-installed/MyDocs/.documents/ and moving ~/MyDocs/.* back to internal storage, I also had to deal with version conflicts for libdb4.2 (= 4.2.52-18osso) and libglade2-0 (= 1:2.4.0-1osso2). I had to manually edit the Package: osso-software-version-rx34 entry in /var/lib/dpkg/status and replace the = sign with > in the Depends: line for the two dependencies above.

Oh, and also for those who choose to fix this from within the Application Manager application, changing the option clean-after-install to 0 in ~/.osso/hildon-application-manager helps shorten the trial-and-error cycles.

update via app manager
reboot
run penguinbaits install-tools

reboot

version numbers updated...
That's exactly what I had to do. See my post here. The version number on the SD didn't change until I updated the flash also. I did uninstall sliderotate first and reinstalled it today with no problems. Thanks to all who continue to post solutions on this forum. The ITT and Ubuntu forums rock!

These are the Speed Contacts and Tableteer Info home screen applets. Click the home menu near the top left of the main screen then "Select applets" and uncheck them.
