@gerbick: I might not require the 64GB one that I requested.
My first question would be what is their return policy. if no returns, i wouldnt trust them, and where was the phone made

They do have a return policy.
It may not be as good as amazon, but there is a return policy.

We should just hold an unofficial meego convention in Australia and use it as a tax write off.
64GB is still in stock at Harvey Norman for $786 and $71 of that will be refunded when you leave the country, as long as you take it with you and have the "tax invoice". Their dollar is pretty much the same as ours.

Phone arrived yesterday from Singapore while I was on call. Nice gift from the wife. Have set it up, dev mode, etc. Gerbick et all, when you guys get the phones confirm with me about WiFi hotspot, whenever I activate it, it says 'Wireless network not allowed'. Really pissing me off, joiku for n900 let me do whatever I wanted on T-Mobile...this version is crippled? Must be a way to deactivate restriction via terminal...otherwise this phone is really nice, great ue...no widgets though...and us n900 guys love us the widgets...great phone, glad I opted for the 64 gb.

Gerbick,
how much did your friends have to pay as customs tax?

How will we get, illegals by NOKIA standards, get updates if we reside in the USA?

You should still be able to get OTA updates, as Nokia use the product code of the device to determine whether to make the update available. There should also be the option to flash the latest firmware, as per N900.

Are updates based on your IMEI? My N8, bought in USA, still does not have Anna update. so you are saying if i buy a phone from Dubai, I will get an update when everyone in Dubai gets it?? Isnt it also carrier dependent? Just curious about the logistics of how its done. We in the UsA were always the last to get NOKIA updates, and with Windows phones coming now, I am worried that USA will be turned off the grid for non- Windows phones

The updates are based on the product code. The reason many USA N8s don't have the Anna update is that Nokia have not pushed out the update for N8s with USA product codes. There is probably also some inertia on the part of the USA carriers, with whom Nokia do not have a great relationship. The updates are only carrier-dependent if your device has a carrier-specific product code. If your device is sim-free, you will not have this problem.
