German retailers did not change their availability info. That means they've got no reliable information from Nokia. So I can't trust any other info from Nokia - not more than their previous announcements.
I expect (physical) availability in Germany Nov 30. Can wait for dropping prices after Xmas.

No reason to close this thread yet. I'm looking forwardf to post #4000 (at least one thing we can look forward...)

I am going to make a wild *** guess that some manager at Nokia pulled strings, raised their voice and told logistics to round up some phones and release in Italy, France and the NYC store.

A small "teaser" release to to quell the annoyance thatīs been showing up on this site, tech websites, conversations.nokia.com and more.

Some sort of a proof that the phone exists and is viable for sale. Now we can relax a little. Lets give them a week and then we can get annoyed again if more retailers and shops donīt start shipping.
At the New York store there is a sign when you come in, on the right hand side that states: Nokia N900 ETA is 11/30/2009, more information can be found on http://www.nokiausa.com

so...no phone yet

I can almost without doubt propose the NYC N900 stock was a PR stunt to get some of the heat off of their rather pi55 poor launch. This way, they were not technically wrong that N900's "had landed" in the US for customers.

Nokia US is probably covering their butts with a little smoke.

Added:

I also suggest all of the price reductions we are seeing is to offset orders from being canceled. Prices usually do not drop on a new device before launch. They tend to stay closer to retail for the first six months of launch- mainly due to supply issues, since if a success, manufacturers ramp production up then. They are more cautious at launch until they understand the actual SELL TROUGH demand.

The current delay is probably more due to Nokia's poor operational structure to execute a smooth launch rather than huge global demand.

I have a feeling you are correct. I will be surprised to see any online retailer ship the n900 in the U.S. before December 1.

If you ask why Nokia has these problems to finish a new product, read this (translated from http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldu...-865253.html):
8<--------snip--------
The cell phone maker Nokia reduces red numbers in the wake of its activities in research and development even further. As the company announced, to the location of Oulu, Finland 230 points and will be deleted in Denmark's capital Copenhagen 100 jobs. These were two percent of the total workforce this corporate division, it was said.
>8--------snap--------
Last year (end of june) they closed ther plant in Bochum (Germany) and transferred production to Romania where they pay loans below romanian average.
Later RIM opened a R&D center in Bochum, empoyed 120 well qualified Nokia Engineers, and they developed the new blackberry 9700 bold within only a year.
I think this is the wrong way Nokia! You may soon return to your core competence: making gumboots.

And for sure there are lots of other firms doing it the same ... they will all see what will happen to them!

Probably a case of "no harm, no foul", since most of us will get the N900 in December or later. This launch has been screwed to epic proportions and the lame shipment of a few hundred devices to their main flagship store seems telling in this regard.
