Hello,
I have being testing N900 for few weeks and I have also reach this problem.
Actually you can't wipe the device calender if you have sync with exchange.
The birthdays and schedules left remain and there is only "EDIT" option to use.
This command line does all you cant from device menu.
I found it safe and reliable, but it is not User friendly option...

There is a error message "Permission denied". just ignore the message and type "Y" to cont. Then again "Y".
Reboot the device and there is nothing left behind.

The '.' or '..' part is normal, they're not files or directories so they can't be removed. '.' is a link to the current directory, '..' to the upper directory.

About when it asks for permission to descend into .activesync directory, I don't know if the files in there are important.
