Been there, done that, called Nokia. Apathy is the best word to explain what I got from them.

If you want to try and get something rolling in the right direction, my best guess would be to call up Nokia Support and complain to them. It's the only way management is likely to pay attention to the problem.

General, I feel the need to vent, and this is the best available place! This situation (bin upgrades & repositories) being totally FUBARED is simply pitiful. Please, search cops and other self-appointed forum mods, STFU!

So what exactly IS the internet forum equivalent of an angry mob brandishing torches in front of Dr. Frankenstein's manor?

I've been following this forum since 770 days and its gotten crazy lately so i understand reflex of discouraging rants, but do you have any reason to believe nokia actually does have a working plan for 'revamping' infrastructure?

I know maemo.org really needs new servers, (possibly new web software), upgraded network capacity, tiger teams for testing, and persons who oversee the Quality of Service. That is wise for future product growth and end user satisfaction.

So i understand the rant and there are solutions but sometimes to diffuse the rants you have to acknowlege your surface weaknesses... which (in this case) requires open source team to work with finance guys to get new servers, etc... not something that comes naturally.

They've got software development on track, product development on track, just no infrastructure. I would like to see them address these issues in a long term approach, otherwise i dont think the 'step 5' users will have attention span to tolerate these issues.

Not for me, I tried maemo mapper which depends on libgdbm3_1.8.3-2_armel.deb.

Not only does the repository look broken, but they aren't returning errors, so instead of getting an error you get what looks like a .deb file but actually contains:

The service is temporarily unavailable. We are very sorry for the inconvinience it may cause.

You got it. Sending that "message" instead of a proper service error has many people confused beyond belief. Even worse, some are pointing the finger at OS2008.

I'm getting the sub process returns an error message when updating maemo extras using wi-fi, but when I use bluetooth to my phone it refreshes perfectly (although the download fails half way through)

Anyone know why this could be?

I ran into this libgdbm3_1.8.3-2_armel.deb problem when trying to install the package
perl-modules. I found a version of this deb on http://repository.maemo.org/pool/maemo3.2/free/binary, so I just gave this a try:

wget http://repository.maemo.org/pool/mae....3-2_armel.deb
dpkg -i libgdbm3_1.8.3-2_armel.deb

After this, I was able to install the package perl-modules.

But maybe I should add that I'm not too sure what the potential harm is of using that other libgdbm3_1.8.3-2_armel.deb...
