Thanks to OP.

I have a question: I try using SIP out included in fring. It works but how i can dial my voicemail code, there is no dialpad after connection is made.

Yeesh, what sort of crazy bad advice is flying around in here? Symlinking system libraries, .installs that add the SDK repository?

Somebody needs to go back to the start and try again, I'm not interested in dealing with the fallout this'll induce. . . .

<shudder/>

Fortunately, this'll have an upside: another generation of powerusers can help people blindly typing commands, and then they'll realise telling people to do this sort of hackery - rather than just getting the upstream package fixed - leads to more effort on their part, on more pain for end-users.

Nice point about the deficiency in Fring now.

I subscribed to my Skype account in Fring and then went on to uninstall Skype (thinking I will save space on my N810) , but I see no dialpad on Fring - and I do often dial to contacts and numbers who are not on the Skype contact list .... so back to installing skype again for me...

Also on the Fring contact list - I see no way of understanding whcih contacts are from which IM system (i.e. yahoo, gmail skype etc) unless you ckick on the contact to see which system they are from .... (details are in the secondary screen).

could someone explain, what's the advantages of fring, if we already have skype and internet call?

One major advantage is that you get to see all your contacts on different systems status on one applocation itself.

So while previously I would need to fire up Skype, Yahoo, google Chat (Internet call) , Gizmo seperately to see which of my friends are online on each respective system, with Fring you can now have one app to check all contact across different protocols and chat / voice chat with them all thru one app.

Of course the downside is you lose Video chat facility in Gizmo in the ITT when using Fring (Skype never had video chat, so no loss there).

Doesn't rtcomm or Pidgin accomplish this already? and without a broken-as-all-get-out package at that. . . .

Never used RTComm or Pidgin. I am only speaking about the choices I have tried and am interested in...
Broken package or not, Fring is good at what it pertains to be. For me package worked first time, so I wont bash the application features because of some erroneous and "idotic" (your words) packaging.

Package and software features are 2 different things for me.

Gizmo allows Video conferencing or Video chat as I call it , on the ITT. Am I wrong ?

I installed Fring on my n810 with absolutely no issues what-so-ever, however although it is a nice app - it seems more limited than Pidgin. At least with Pidgin I can;

a) Hide offline users.
b) Disable the annoying beep every time someone messages me (flashing the LED is a lot more pleasant)
c) Have more than one of each account type running (e.g. I have two MSN accounts).

True I can't SIP with Pidgin, but Skype is better for my voice chat requirements - and at the moment nothing really hits that video sweet spot (I need MSN/Yahoo video chatting - come ON pidgin devs, you know you guys *want* to do it )
