The whole things seems stupid to me. Maemo is community owned and operated, so I am told.

If the community, including the council has no power, who or what community is running maemo.

Its not council, its not users, so who, who is at the helm if this ship???

Is the whole community owned line a pile of crap?

Some of us take it as a challenge to b*tch louder.

What helm? What ship?

Do you mean the websites? The repositories? The bugzilla?

You can find the names of the guys responsible for those things here. (we should add Reggie to that list now, shouldn't we? EDIT: Is Reggie our Talkmaster?)

Technically, if they aren't doing their job, the community, in the form of the council, can hold their feet to the fire and get them to smarten up, but the structure of maemo.org is purposely "loose" and "casual".

I have no idea what other helm or ship you might be talking about.

This is why I'm so insistent on differentiating between Maemo and maemo.org. Maemo is the software platform owned and operated by Nokia (with community assistance and contributions), maemo.org is the website owned and operated by the community (with Nokia assistance and contributions).

Does this make sense to you? Can you see the problem when you confuse the two things?

excellent point, and this is often a confusion point, no doubt. I'll try to be more careful

To say that the Maemo Community Council has no power is not true. You have power and each day that goes but you decide how you use it. You can do nothing with it, you can do your own thing with it.

its there, its real, its tangible.

The point is if I had 5 council members that thought they should streamline communications, they could accomplish this. If they wanted to facilitate a change, they can more easily move an agenda forward.

Perhaps your lack of wanting to be in the position you hold doesn't provide you with the ability to make and push for changes you want to implement. Or perhaps you are just happy with exactly how things are running and you see no reason for change.

Whether you want to or not, you were chosen to represent the community and you are at the helm of this community. YOU represent the community to Nokia.

There is a problem when someone confuses the two. Do you really think that some people, when hearing the sentence "Maemo is taking over!" think that a computer program is taking over?

We say lots of things that are technically ambiguous, but their meaning is obvious in context. That is how language works.

No, I think you think that Nokia is taking over, which is clearly not the case (I'm not going to argue with you—again—about why the assertion that somebody outside of itT is taking over—be it Maemo or maemo.org).

No disrespect meant, but if you're not going to argue about it, then please don't bring it up here. It is not relevant to the thread and is only likely to take the thread further off topic.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation in keeping this thread a civil discussion.

I'm trying to follow lemmyslender's instructions in the Post #1. But when I try to "On the small floating toolbar (middle top) click on page, edit account," there are no links, no nothing. Not in Firefox, not in Google Chrome. There are links through Website to logout, and Help links, but no links at the heading called "Page."

Try clicking on your name in the upper right corner instead. For me the dang floaty bar obscured my name and I couldn't find it. I had to drag the bar out of the way first.
