In my experience the built in mail application can kill a battery quick if the following happens:

open up one of your accounts (assuming multiple accounts). If it lists the number of messages in the right pane but does not actually show the messages, you're in for a dead battery shortly. I discovered this after a number of times where I would receive no e-mail for hours and then the low battery warning. I've only been able to rectify this by rebooting the tablet, though I'm sure there is a way to restart the the mail application from the terminal.

Thanks for you post^^

I keep it in flightmode, so there is not active Wifi at all. The only time I use Wifi is when it is plugged in to the charger, simply because it drains the battery far to much and makes it die quicker. So this cannot be causing the problem, as it is not active

I have also just reflashed the device in an attempt to solve the problem, so there are no desktop applets and not status bar applets installed. In fact there is nothing installed on there accepted what it came with, besides this rootsh and I just installed.

Are there any other things besides extra programmes or Wifi that could be causing it?

dont forget to restart your tablet before you test the battery life otherwise meta crawler wont be switched off.

p.s. welcome to linux, you're one of us now.
Hehehe One of you, huh? Yet I still don't have a clue what I'm doing^^ I totally didn't think to reset it until you said it!

I'll let you know how it works out soon!! Right now it's saying less than an hour, so until it's charged up again, I can't really tell

I don't use the mail ap. As it doesn't last in WiFi mode, there is little point in having my email through the device as I can't keep connected too long....

obviously the battery could have just gone bad. It is best to avoid running the battery completely dead as it can cause damage to the battery life - the n810 should shutdown before this happens, but just to be safe.... also you should store the battery with some charge in it - if you are going to leave your n810 in a drawer for weeks, its best to have some charge in the battery, even if the tablet is off.

Just one more thing... After you reflashed, did you restore backup? Sometimes restoring backup may restore system settings that were the cause for your issues. To be absolutely sure nothing is messed up, backup should not be restored.

Leave it in a draw?! WEEKS?! Now that's a foreign concept! Hehehe I take it everywhere He's never seen the inside of a draw!

I always do my best to shut off it off before it dies, but it dies so quickly of late I don't get a chance.

The battery can't have gone bad!! I only just bought it!! It's not even two weeks old! Unless it a dud!!

It's most likely a software issue then - when i first got mine i installed all these crazy applications and the battery would die extra fast - now i get atleast 3 hours of constant surfing with skype and pidgin running or 5 hours of mp3s (with occasional button and touch screen use). also, as previously mentioned, weak wifi signals will kill your battery much faster.

3 hours surfing?! 5 hours of mp3?! I've never had that long! Even when it was new! I think the longest it's lasted is 3 hours tops. It did go two days in idling once too. You are so lucky!!

My brother's lasts somethign crazy like 12 days when idling... but then i don't think he runs OS2008, nbut uses something different.

The only aplications I had were Usb control (which on a totally unrelated matter won't reinstall after the flash), xornal and maemomapper, with flite. Oh and tuner. there were a few others but they were games
