This method or zooming isn't really that difficult of course, but neither are as easy or intuitive as double clicking in my opinion.

Yeah, double clicking would be the best solution, but these are just possible alternatives if they don't implement your idea (PS: put it on brainstorm I guess?).

No, actually I think you were right the first time. When you select the cursor icon, it appears to behave like a left mouse button being held down. That's why you use this mode to select text I guess...

Still, for maximizing flash content, double clicking would still be easier.

EDIT:
OK... on second thought I think you would have to navigate in "hover mode" and then click with the shift key or space bar. Otherwise, it would be like navigating a page with the left mouse button depressed. That wouldn't really work.

You can of course also use the hardware keys for zooming in and then comfortably press the fullscreen button.

I really love the features discussed in the video. I just noticed though - Farmville gameplay loads so slow in this video. Is there anyway that I would be able to play flash games like how I see it on my desktop?

the N900 has a webbrowser... and it is able to play flash... but (just as the iphone) it is definetly not like a normal desktop.

it is slow rendering of the pages.
long loading.
heavy content(flash movie playing apps, flash games) is slow.

just open task manager to see how much cpu power or ram Iexplorer.exe uses. mozilla the same. chrome as well.

having 3 webpages open at the same time on the n900 is probably ultimate drama.

having 1 porn-site open is probably the worst. lots of pictures, flash, java stuff, adds etc.

which makes me ask... how does a webbrowser in a mobile device like the N900 handles cookies? pop ups? non-secure websites? etc.

i think you judge to early considering the device is not available to the market and comparing it with iphone (iphone can't open flash) is not wise because it will be different..

It's a demo by Future Crew. FC is a legendary finnish demo group. They were also among the founders of Assembly. Former members have since founded Future Mark (3DMark), Remedy (Max Payne) and few other gaming related companies.

I've used Firefox for years but never come across this, thanks! I too hope the Maemo browser will allow this kind of thing.

That's correct.

You're right, and I've seen a few other examples on that in other videos. It doesn't look very swish.

I think the problem with that is that a double-tap or a long-press might mean something to the Flash object that you are clicking on, e.g. a game might use those gestures for bringing up a menu or performing some kind of action. And even if the browser could somehow overload those actions (maybe by clicking a toolbar button then clicking the Flash object), I don't think there's a standardised way to tell every Flash object to go into fullscreen mode, is there?

So did Future Crew produce the video and this is their little easter egg to say so, or are they actually producing Maemo 5-hsoted demos?

The HD version of this video is 960x480 (approx) - I don't see the point of playing this on the N900 - the quality and performance will suffer from scaling it to the screen size.

The smaller version (640x360) is just fine for a mobile device, if you ask me. It's YouTube after all, not a DVD player.
